Was looking at rebluing an old gun as a project and wanted to know how people handled the area around a vented rib. Specifically getting in all the nooks and crannies in the venting. All tips are appreciated.

As some one that does hot bluing.

The first thing that I do is a mild acid wash tho get all of the old bluing off the barrel and out of the vent rib areas!

While most hot blued guns are going to be compatable with another dip in the hot blue tank, the is always that one for whatever reason that will turn an odd color!

I also do not like cold blue because I get to see the screw ups! More then will be admitted to and often wonder how many fine firearms got hidden in the rafters or dropped down an old will rather then admit it didn't work or some such thing!

As most people are aware some guns, such as those with soft soldered ribs CANNOT be hot blued/dipped. They must be rust blued/blacked.
