On another thread a poster complained that many members of TS.COM were not really Trapshooters and should not be on here. I got to thinking what are the qualifications of a valid Trapshooter? Is it registering targets with the ATA or PITA? Is it shooting Leagues? Or being a "Weekend Warrior" on the Trap fields?

I shot trap as a Collegiate and I have trophies to prove it. Always preferred shooting skeet though.

For one year I was a member of the ATA, registered targets at a few shoots, didn't care for it. I still have a nice Trap O/U in my safe and could load some suitable shells and go to the club and shoot trap if I wished. Do I qualify?

There are a lot of wealthy and arrogant individuals on here that will say if you do not shoot registered birds you are not a "real" trapshooter. What they do not realize is that between recent increases in prices of shot, birds, gas etc. many of us average Joes cannot afford the additional ATA fees.

I am a recereational trap shooter and do it for fun, not so some orgaqnization can charge double per round and keep track of my scores. I will continue shooting recreationally unil I can break 500 straight, then I will go to some of the money shoots.

You don't need anyone elses's validation....you are what you identify yourself as. Which game were/are you most passionate about? If you shoot 500 trap targets a year and that's all you shoot, I'd say you're a trapshooter. I shoot at least 5,000 trap targets a year and consider myself a sporting clays shooter.

It's my understanding that this website is privatly owned, I think it's up to the owner to decide who is qualified.

I shoot at 20,000 or more trap targets a year and don't consider myself a trapshooter by looking by looking at my scores. But I'm going to keep trying.

I don't qualify,I shoot clay targets not traps.I always thought traps were for trapping.Like muskrats.

I know, just always wondered why they name stuff the way they do.I'm sure you'all can think of other examples.

Skeet,,ain't that the name we call those insects that skoot across the top of the water? Guess they'd be fun to shoot, never tried it.

Sporting Clays/ Do they wear bikinis to be sporting??

Who is the character on here that gets all bent out of shape, when somebody asks a question or makes a comment about Skeet or Sporting Clays? He (or she?) calls them "sporties" and tells them to get on their own discussion boards? Somewhat of a blowhard and wanna be bully. Classic.

I started out with Skeet, really took to trap, but also enjoy Sporting Clays and 5-Stand. They are all good for their own reasons. Somedays I am a Trapshooter and somedays I am a Sporting Clays Shooter. Its all good!
