So I love my 870 and I'm planning on adding doubles to my game this year. I'll be getting a new O/U sooner or later but I'm going to start with the doubles sooner.

I've been shooting an 870 for as long as I can remember. Shooting and pumping it for follow up shots are as natural to me as walking.

My question, for you pumpers out there, is what routine do you use to load during doubles? In singles, I drop the shell in the receiver when I have have cleared after shooting and close the action while shouldering the gun. I have a routine and I like it.

What are your doubles loading routines?

When shooting doubles I drop the first shell into the chamber then
slide the forarm half way closed the end of the forarm will be just in front
of the reciever. Then you can load the second shell into the magazine tube.
This will not work on the new TC models as the forarm is to long.
When it is my turn I close the action as I sholder the gun and have fun.

You will have to try this a few times to see where the forarm has to be
so you can load the second shell.
I recomend dummy shells when you try this.

I like this system and I do not have to load a shell with closed gun.

Scott, Same as Arrow..........Close the action half way after dropping one in the chamber and load one in the mag. Works with my old 870 and my (even) older Mod 12 Winchesters. Mike

Thanks for the idea guys, this was what I was looking for. Some way to avoid putting the next shell in the mag without having a live on in the chamber and without cycling the action to many times.
