A whole bunch of shooting events were dumped in order to achieve gender equality-or at least that was the asserted justification.

The ISSF can't stop messing with these events. Up until 2000 women couldn't shoot trap, only double trap (that's how Kim R started in international competitions). ISSF skeet was meant to be for men, until a Chinese woman won it. So they introduced women's skeet. 2000 Sydney saw women's trap for the first time but it was only 75 targets. Then the finals came in, 25 targets double barrel with your Q score carried forward. Then the final went to single barrel 25 shots with your Q score scrubbed. Then it went to a top 6 elimination with a gold medal last 10 target event. Then women went from 75 to 125 targets (only 4 years ago).

The pairs trap "medal matches" have changed radically in just the 4 years since it was introduced.

And that's just trap. Don't start me on the ISSF messing with the pistol rules. (The ladies 25 metre Sport pistol final used to be so complex that only about 4 people in Australia knew how to run it. I was one because my ex gf was a top line pistol shooter).

It's all in the name of "finals" and television.

The Lonato trap (bunker) set up. 11 grounds with tunnels linking the bunkers. Apparently the trappers ride bikes up and down the tunnels. People I know who have shot there rate it the best bunker ground in the world.

I shot the Gran Mondiale Perazzi there 2 years ago. Indeed a superb range. The hedge rows between each bunker setup really does make it feel like there isn't any other shooting going on but yours.

The 12th one on the far right was interesting as it has that berm pretty close on the right. So the low far right targets were challenging to second barrel if it got away from you.

And being just minutes from Lake Garda where you can jump in and cool off was such a treat.

Did you meet young Ben Keller that trip? He’s captain of the Junior Team this year.

He wasn't there that shoot. But I've known Ben for years from when we used to shoot ATA together. I run into him and his dad down at the training center from time to time. I'm so excited for him and how he's been shooting.
I think this was at Delta. He’s grown since and gotten even better.

I've shot Olympic trap and Olympic skeet there and agree the background is superb for target visibility. We used to fly from the UK to use it as a warm weather training ground.
