I have a BT-99 that needs re-blued. I thought I would have it hard chromed or nickeled or whatever is best. I don't know much about the process but I am told the plating makes the action more durable. Suggestions or idea's appreciated. Jeff

Jeff,

You may want to contact Doug Braker. He redid a 90T for Gene and it looked awesome. I wish I could remember the thread where he posted pictures of the finished product. It was a nitrate style finsh if I recall.

Bod,

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one that has that problem.

Try Ron Mahovovsky (http://www.mahovskysmetalife.com/) - he uses either the metalife process (http://www.metalifeind.com/) or an electroless nickle.

Both give great results - the metalife plates into the metal not onto it so it is very tough, rust resistant, and increase lubricity of the metals. Rockwell hardness of 71.
The elcetroless nickle will fill minor pits from rust etc. gives almost the same rust resistance as the metalife, but more of a surface plating.

I've learned to trust Ron's judegment as to which is best for a particular firearm is the way to go (start with the metalife, unless he thinks the electroless nickle will give better results).

I've sent him 20 plus firearms over the years; delighted with all.

GREAT for carry pistols too - no wear, no rust...
