Most of the people I know that have a CCW do not carry them on their person very often. Most carry in their vehicles, locked up, but still available if the need arises. I live out in the rural areas of northern California. If I lived in one of the bigger cities, I would carry most of the time.

I find it a PIA to always be trying to hide the gun, especially in hot weather.

I got mine back when it permitted you to buy a gun without an additional background check and waiting period. You showed them your CCW and you were good to go. It doesn't work that way any more, but I still renew it, but don't carry on my person. It does keep me legal when I throw stuff in the truck to go to the gun club, and I don't have to worry about keeping gun and ammo separate, etc. Mark

I carry my cell phone and my Glock, not in that order but never leave home without either one of them ... I used a deep concealment shoulder hoster and can carry it under a shirt and you won't know its there ... I have carried for over 35 years ... WPT ... (YAC) ...

I live in CA and getting a CCW could be a problem, even in Ventura County where I live which is realtively conservative. I could probably get one since the Sherriff is a personal friend I went thru high school with, But I doubt I would carry a fullsized gun every day as I just don't want the extra weight on my person.

That said, I have shorts and a tee shirt and flipflops on today as it is already above 85 degrees. The only gun I could carry descretely is a mouse gun.

Since Ruger LCP, Kel-Tecs and other small semiautos are only available to law enforcement here, that leaves NAA mouse guns as the only viable carry guns.

Whereas I would rather have one of those than nothing, a .22 is not my first choice to go to a gun fight with. It would be a weapon of last resort if i'm cornered.

I am pretty aware of my surroundings normally and especially so when I go to places where there is a higher possibility of a threat,,,Like Oxnard's Walmart.

It would be a very unusual circumstance for me to get cornered, so I won't carry.

However that doesn't mean I don't have close access to a rifle.

Have one in my pickup, but usually not on me. Have my grandson on a daily basis, so I have to be careful in that regard. Going to school twice a day. In hot weather here in Texas, it is hard to conceal, so I just have in the pickup.

First rule.

Never tell anyone you carry. Period. Braggers get a white sheet.

If I want to risk my life to save you I want it to be when I safely can. Not when you yell " You have a gun save me".

I live in Idaho and have CCW's for Idaho, Washington, and Oregon. In Idaho, the CCW is issued for carrying on your person, not in a car/truck glovebox or under the seat, and I suspect most states that issue them require the weapon to be carried. After all, the first "C" in CCW means Carry.

For those of you that lock your weapons in your car or truck, remember that if your vehicle gets stolen, you've just provided the thief with a weapon at no extra charge.

The only place I don't carry is in the court building in town (federal, state, and county) and that's because they have metal detectors at the doors. Other than that, I always carry.

Here in Texas in is CHL. I have a CHL and the C is for concealed. If they can see or tell that you are carrying, you are in violation on the law. It is Concealed Handgun License here.

To answer your question ....I do not carry as much as I did years ago. There are places I might need to go to an are not in the best location and then I would carry. Ray

I've had one for years, never carry except when we travel between MI and FL.
If I lived in certain parts of the state I'd have one on me at all times, just don't think I need one here.

"so... I don't wear a sign saying I carry, a few friends and family know. Now I get a white sheet? "
I have to agree with Mikezookie. Best to keep it to yourself. Even if close friends and family know, when the pressure is on, what are they going to do? At the very least they will stare at you wondering when you are going to do something heroic. Sort of a red flag to the bad guys.
Better that no one knows.
But then I never carry, so what do I know?
