I know this question has been asked before but until now I did not need to know the answe, so here goes again. What is the differnce between type 3 and type 4 iron on the MX-8 and what are the other diferncces between the two types of Perazzi's. I have an MX-8 in the 41,000 serial number range and I need to know to be able to replace the wood on the set. If anyone has photos that they can post to demonstrate the difference that would be really great.
Thanks,
Doug

Doug, here's the pic. of type 3 & 4.

As for the butt stock wood, they are 99.5% interchangeable.

On the receivers, type 3 guns mostly have top lever release trip on the top of breech face, type 4 guns are mostly on the side, but there're some early type 4s have the trip on top as well.

Here's an early type 4 gun with trip on top of breech face:

Thanks for the info. It is very helpful. Are there any other differences in the receivers?

There are changes in the receiver through out the years other than the trip location, two piece receiver, one piece receiver etc., but that got nothing to do with type 3 and type 4 forends.
