Did all TMX specials have the word special on the receiver? Saw a TMX today dated 1984 that had tapered rib ,palm swell and numbers matching but no special on the receiver??

The word "special " GENERALLY refers to the 4 position trigger group. I know the MX3 special was an exception and there may be others but I can't think of another.

Interesting. Seen a couple of plain TM-1s with the word "SPECIAL" stamped on the underside of the barrel.

Edit: Both of my plain TM-1s have "SPECIAL" stamped on the underside of the barrel.

Kinda beginning to think the word "Special" can mean many things...
Kinda like the word "interesting"....

I own a TMX but thought the Special model not only having Special engraved also had the adjustable trigger position. Great gun still.

Yeah I bought it but was confused about features of a "special" he said tapered rib and palm swell were features, but they must be standard
