I am seriously looking at diving in and getting a MX8 (either plain silver receiver or Lusso scroll engraving)...possible 33" barrels, no side ribs, fixed choke, barrel weight hedging on the low 1.6kg scale. I like high ribs like the K80 ProSporter rib but I am leaning towards a high step rib like shown below (11x11 step rib as was described from the Eurochasse website where I got this image from...and no I am not going to buy from them).:

anyone here shoot this kind of rib and prefer it to an adjustable ProSporter-like rib?

Looks like a fairly low step rib to me,,,maybe 1/8" higher than a flat rib?

Last Spring I bought an MX-8 with a 32" step rib barrel exactly like the one in your picture and I love it for Trap shooting! The POI is 80/20 with just a bit of rib showing between the beads which is perfect for my shooting style. I don't have the need for an adjustable rib so I'd rather do without the unnecessary complication. Perazzi has been making this rib for over 40 years for at least one really good reason, it works very well.

I tried an MX-15 with the higher adjustable rib and just didn't feel as though I gained much of anything. The MX-8 step rib allows me to mount the gun with the same heads-up position and I don't feel the disconnect between the rib and barrel that I felt with the high rib gun.

I bought my gun new from Eurochasse. They were straightforward, did exactly what they said they would do and gave me an excellent price. I will most likely buy from them again.

thanks....I haven't messed with my adjustable rib on my K80 ProSporter (nor messed with my adjustable comb either) so if I was going to go with a Perazzi, I was thinking just to get the step high vented rib and not mess with an adjustable rib.

is the rib pictured the "highest" fixed step rib available?

Hilton: what is the barrel weight of your barrels?

The weight of my barrels is 1.62 kg. The MX-8 is the highest fixed rib barrel that Perazzi makes. John

Hilton55, you're off target. I believe Perazzi makes several fixed ribs higher than the MX8 step rib. I know for sure that DB81 ribs are fixed and significanty higher - probably three times as high - but there are other fixed high MX8 body ribs as well.

Hopefully one of the Perazzi knowledge guru's will provide the model names/numbers.

I guess I'll throw this out there.....what would the best Perazzi fixed "high" rib to shoot all of the clay games (doubles trap, but mostly sporting clays and FITASC)?

One thing about adjustable ribs is they don't sit on the barrel so there are not as much or very little heat waves coming off the ribs if your on a fast shooting squad. Just my .02 worth.

The MX2005 is the highest rib gun that Perazzi offers at present. It is an adjustable rib gun, but if you don't like adjustable ribs, just don't adjust it - leave it in the center stop.

MX2008 is now the highest rib gun.. Not for everyone.. How long is your neck??? A short neck sometimes does not due as well with a high rib.. as our longer necked brothers..

The laws of shooting are simple.. Have a stock that fits you.. and your shooting style.. Find a sight picture you shoot well with.. Put the lead on the target..

Everyone has an opinion.. everyone has a A--hole.. Many As---les have opinions..

Shoot them both and you tell us what you liked..and why.. Just me..MX14 fixed rib..MX10RS adjustable rib.. difference 1000 rounds.. 1 bird.. Just put the lead on the target.. be sure your trigger is right for you.. be sure your stock fits you correctly..

rbmtrap - Perazzi has not made the DB81 for many years. The highest fixed rib barrel listed in the current Perazzi catalog is on the MX-8, trap version. John

I'm long necked but the adjustable ribs on the trap specific guns are too high (e.g. MX2008)...hence I was looking at the MX2000/3 rib or a fixed "high" vented MX8 rib for mostly sporting clays with some bunker/trap double thrown in here and there....

Both you've sighted are excellent.. Don't overlook the MX10.. It's done well on all fields.. Both the MX2005 and MX2008 are way to high for me..

The MX2000/3 and MX8 are both about the same rib height..just you can adjust the adjustable rib for the figure8 picture instead of seeing some top rib.. if you go after a higher point of inpact..

DB 81 is the highest fixed rib gun Perazzi offers. There's a DB 81 combo on Jaquas website and one on here for sale. Need to shoot one first though. They aren't for everyone. I drooled over one for over a year, bought it shot 200 miserable doubles with it and traded it the following week.

The old MX 8 is hard to beat if your using it for sporting, trap and Fitsac. The one you pictured is probably your best bet.

This is a good question,because my DB does not have a unsingle barrel. Bigbore will a mx-15 work or a mx-2000rs? I snaped on my action Jeff's 2000 rs and it seemed to me to look good other than the rib toward the front did look low.
