From what information I was able to obtain for Pat-Traps, it recommends
Mobil 1 ow-30 oil for the pump.
Can any other product be used/substitued?

While I don't recommend it they will run on most anything. I think the 0W-30 may be hard to find as current Pat-Trap recommendation is Mobil 1 5W-20.

Some pat traps run ATF in the machine.Thats what they had when the traps first came out.

Setter if Mobil 1 0w-30 is the correct oil. Auto Zone stated they do carry it.
Should I use the 0w-30 over the 5w-20?

Use the 0-20W or 5-20W Mobil 1. Long as its 20W

Mobil 1 is the correct oil and 5W-20 is now the recommended weight, use 5W-20. Some time back, Mobil 1 realigned their weights and Mobil 1 0W-30 is no longer in their product line-up. I usually find it at Wal-Mart and get the 5 quart jugs.

Edit - Oops, I see that Mobil 1 now offers Mobil 1 Racing Oil in 0W-30; however, use the 5W-20.

Page 58 of the manual for the G Series states: Mobile 1: 0-W-20. Here in Fla both NAPA and Auto Zone carry it. Auto Zone being a little less. Jake

just had this discussion with pat trap- use the ow20 synthetic. ATF has damaged our hydralic system. The ATF was the beginning of a windmilling situation. 0w20 has worked the best.

When I called Pat Trap I was told to use Mobil 1 0W-20 and no other. Wal-Mart and Advance Auto Parts carries it. ATF has many ingredients to suit the needs of an automatic transmission and may cause leaks or valves to stick when used in a Pat Trap. I suggest if you are using ATF, flush the system and replace with Mobil 1 0W-20.
