Sounds like an excused absence to me. How well was it received?

Our local schools are closed on Veterans Day as they should be. I am proud to say our local schools also start the day with the Pledge, kids can wear firearm related attire, they have a school Trap team and students get an excused absence for deer season.

Shame on the schools who remain open on Veterans Day.

I teach at a Catholic High School. I've been there 22 years. For all of those 22 years except 4 I have been the only Vet. (One of the old nuns was a Marine) Not once in all of that time have we ever had an opening prayer for our vets, we've never offered any official thanks nor have we really done much for our graduates who are Vets. We do take the day off but that's it. For awhile, it was policy to discourage our grads from applying to the academies. Kinda sad

We've always been off on Veterans Day at the schools I went to in Oregon, and I'm pretty sure we had it off too at my grade school in Omaha. It's a federal, state and banking holiday here.
