The following is a list of words or phrases that should be banned, based on their mindless over-use for the past year or more:

Maverick (as in overused by the McCain campaign)

From Wall Street to Main Street (or variations thereof)

Green or Going Green

Carbon Footprint

Economic Meltdown

Change (as in overused by the Obama campaign)

Locavore

I know, right?

Outside the Box or Thinking Outside the Box

Its Not Rocket Science

Like (like, you know, every other, like, word that, like, comes out of my, like, daughter's, like, mouth.)

You Know? (see "Like", above.)

Sort of (the British use this as a filler in sentences as often as we use "you know" or "like")

Literally ("Literally" isn't a word you use for emphasis. It's a word you use when you say something that shouldn't be interpreted figuratively.)

Whatever (as in, "Like, you know, literally, whatever…")

Totally!

What one is really saying is that they do care. The correct version is: I could not (couldn't) care less. Have a healthy and prosperous New Year.

What a bunch of crap. somebody does there job and now it's known as "stepping up". I think there is a correct use for the phrase but is is overused to the point that it no longer holds any meaning. Jeff

Have a list of yuppy business terms that appear on a bingo card. It's calles BS Bingo. You take it to any business meeting and as soon as you cross out five of the words, you yell bingo. Takes all of the boredom out of business meetings.

Two:

"Make a difference". What an empty, meaningless phrase that can be applied to any situation to leverage compliance.


"Intolerant" This is perhaps the most vicious, devious, manipulative word to have ever entered the lexicon. It is tossed out like a hand grenade to destroy the charactar of anyone who disagrees with the user. When I was young the word was used rarely and with very focused meaning. Today it is used widely and casually and un-justly.
