I just purchased a new limited class pistol for practical shooting competitions. The barrel is made by Schuemann and I thought I would look up some information about it on their website...WOW! What a wealth of information! I am not a benchrest shooter so I don't know all of the in's and out's of rifle shooting, accuracy or any of the finer details of a rifled barrel. This page gave me a nice overall description, along with some tips that I can apply directly....like "don't clean the bore of your 416 stainless barrel." I would NOT have guessed that!
This suggestion was based on the solvents reacting with the sulphur grains in the barrel, as well as micro-scratching due to barrel brushes. I found this very interesting.
