Sporting gun will serve nicely, toss in open chokes, skeet and skeet would be normal, position feet for the second shot when shooting doubles then wind up for the first, announce your rookieness and ask for any advice and accept it graciously, hold points typically 1/3 the distance away from the house to the center stake, be prepared to swing like you've never done in trap, and lastly, have a blast.....breakemall...Bob Dodd

For some real fun, use your trap gun. The rolling clouds of smoke are very cool. No, you don't need IM/F for skeet but I don't shoot any better with skeet chokes.

You'll have fun, it's harder than it looks.

Piranha2, Sporting clays gun just finewith the skeet chokes. For extra fun, shoot european style with the gunbutt touching your waist until the target appears. Better practice for hunting also. Hold the gun to your shoulder firmly to prevent misfires. Remember, the birds from both houses ALWAYS go over the center stake at 10 feet in height. After you are confident, break them before the center stake. Good, great fun, and it is okay to make confidence breaking comments when your buddies are on the line. Don't try that on the trap field.
Kinda like gold with a shotgun.

Hello piranha2, your sporting gun will work very good for skeet. Cylinder, skeet or IC chokes will work fine. The only problem most sporting clays shooters have with shooting skeet after the first 2 or 3 times is staying awake while they are shooting skeet. If you do have a good time shooting skeet do not admit to it on Trapshooters.com.

According to Tron, the skeet dress code has gotten quite liberal!,..you can dres like any one of the village people too! crossing dressing is now optional...but beware,..there are some old school skeet clubs out there that if you're not wearing your fuzzy sweater, high heels and lip gloss, you'll be turned away at the door...hope this helps
