Can any of you fine folks tell me the nominal bore diameter of a Beretta Optima barrel. That information is not included in the manual that comes with the gun. It is my understanding that the Optima barrel is overbored to some extent, but overbored to what? Is it .740, less? Thanks, gyrine

Optima Bore

Just measured my 391 at .733. Compared to a 3901 barrel at .727 and an older 390 barrel at .723. Angle port Backbored 390 barrel at .736. No wonder I've got so many choke tubes......

Good luck,
Charlie

Classic question "Does the size matter"?

I can see that it would have an impact on choke performance since the relative reduction of the choke is the key.

Does the overbore do anything else for you?

Probably drops pressures and recoil but I am not sure how much.

I am told that Beretta barrels are just about the best quality on the market.

They do seem to be thinner and lighter for their length and hence are faster and maybe less tiring?

regards

There's a chart on the Beretta site that gives the "nominal" Optima bore as .732" and the Mobil bore as .723", subject to the following proviso: "The following chart lists the nominal inside diameters for both types of 12 gauge chokes.
Please note that variations will exist due to engineering and machining tolerances."

Thanks all for the helpful information. I use Wright Optima chokes and he lists the Optima nominal bore size as .732 which has been confirmed by you folks. Just double checking. Thanks, gyrine
