Has anyone shot Olympic bunker trap?
If so how did you like it?
First time shooting it yesterday at Library sportsman club, and had a blast.
I was using my BT 99 ..lol.

Olympic bunker trap is great fun. Target speeds are much faster, angles are twice as wide, and elevation changes significantly. It’s like a turbocharged version of wobble trap. I wish bunker was more available because it would become a larger part of my shooting activity.
Definitely recommend trying. Seeing those first few targets emerge at blazing speeds and crazy angles made me laugh out loud. Although it seems almost impossible at first, any reasonably capable shooter can start hitting targets, and from there it simply becomes a question of how many. Great game.

Can't wait to do it again.
Next time using my over and under.
I shot bunker at Hillsdale College trap, skeet, sc range a few years ago. Had a chance to climb into the trap house to see that mechanical marvel.
My eyes and reflexes too old for that game. Fun to watch targets sail off into the unknown, tho!

A second shot is critical for ISSF trap (bunker). Generally, the gun should not shoot as high as a gun set up for American trap, because the 1.5 metre targets don't rise quite so much, and there is no time to "float" the bird.

Most people use a flat rib 30" gun with barrel weights between 1500 and 1600, usually closer to 1600. Chokes will be IM (3/4) and full for most, but a very quick shooter may get away with a slightly more open (say 0.24, or a 6 in Perazzi terms) choke. Some people are starting to go to 32".

Stocks will allow the shooter to "crawl" so as to get very close to, and sometimes in front of, the right thumb. Glove stocks are seen occasionally.

Ammo is critical-use handicap-quality ammo, but of course 24g (just under 7/8) is the maximum shot payload allowed. Good brands include the top flight Clever, B&P and Fiocchi-but they are expensive.

My wife and I shot it for awhile many years ago. It is tough game and requires quick reflexes. Ammo is limited to 24 Grams ( just a tiny bit below 7.8 oz.) in competition. For serious Bunker Trap you will need a gun that shoots twice. Semi Autos ARE allowed by the rules but heavily frowned upon !! Pump guns are NOT allowed in official matches. As for everything else --What Aussie said !

We set our wobble trap to throw as wide, as high and low, and as fast as possible. Then shoot from the 20 yard line. Two shots. Poor man’s bunker.

Tucson Trap has 5 bunkers, fun to watch for sure. Also 9 or 10 Skeet Field for International Skeet.

As much fun as it is to watch bunker trap.

I will take ZZ birds anyday.

Shoot the bunker almost every weekend. Came to bunker field from tactical shooting little less than 2 years ago and I must admit it was painful 2 years 😁

I started with sporting and AT for few months at first and I stopped by to try the bunker field. I shouldn't have done that. I don't even know why I still shoot the bunker every weekend. :ROFLMAO:Learned a lot though.

A friend of mind is at Michigan for the National. Asked me if I wanted to join him for the selection, but no way I'll be any competitive. Maybe next year. Wished him the best of luck.

According to ISSF Rule 9.4.2.1
“Semi-Automatics & pump action shotguns are excluded “.
meaning not allowed in ISSF competition.
Just fyi-
They may be allowed at a local competition but not if it’s an ISSF sanctioned event or qualifier.
If you can, try it out. It's humbling but fun. Minuteman in Burlington MA opens the range for college events and membership.
There was a sub junior shooting an auto in a selection shoot this spring. He was only allowed one shell, so that his action was open and empty when moving. Did they make an exception for the sub junior? Or is there an exception in the rules?

Shot bunker first time last year. Didn't know what to expect. I was told first Timers usually lucky to get score of 10. My 1st time I got 16. Shot one more time and ended up with 19. I hand-made 7 /8 oz just to stay in legal limits to see how it would be. After I began to figure it out it seemed to me was nothing but a high powered wobble trap. As soon as the target got in sight I just pulled ahead of the target about 10 or 12 feet it seemed and squeezed trigger. Last 12 targets were straight. To bad they don't play games with omplic like regular trap. Be alot of fun.

They made an exception but it’s clearly against the rules. There is no exception for semi-auto’s or pump guns yet. At one time, you couldn’t shoot a gun with ported barrels, they are allowed now if within ISSF rule specs. But I’ve never seen anyone shoot ported barrels in an ISSF event.
Ausi, what advantage does " crawling the stock ' have ? Just curious.

Not possible. The targets are thrown 10 left, 10 right and only 5 straight-aways.

If regular AT was in Olympic, it will probably take 153 years to select the medalist. 😁😁 Believe me, I've seen the medalists shoot the AT for just fun of it. They just don't miss.😁😁

I didn't say straight aways. I meant last 12 targets I went straight. Sorry I explained wrong.

Still, 19 kills at first trial is absolutely remarkable. You should keep shooting it. Really.

After almost 2 years of shooting, I barely made 18 averages and shooting for 20 averages these days. Even that is pretty good for the amateur according to club members.
