Lead in ammunition and hunting
The use of lead shot and other ammunition where lead is used leads to significant releases of lead to terrestric and aquatic environments. Whereas releases to the terrestric environments result mainly in local impacts releases of lead shot in wetlands has a transboundary perspective.
The releases of lead shot and small fishing sinkers to wetlands are of particular concern due to the high risk of poisoning of birds ingesting the lead shot. Besides the local impact, the lead pollution of wetlands has a transboundary perspective, as wetlands are important habitats for migrating birds.
Humans also suffer from lead intoxication through the food chain – particularly vulnerable are kids and infants whose development and IQ can be slowed down and lowered. These effects have been documented particularly in communities where game meat is consumed more frequently.

Lead Hazards at Shooting Ranges
Bullets lie on the floor under hanging targets in a shooting range.
Lead poisoning continues to be a significant problem for employees at shooting ranges. Volunteers and customers can also be exposed to lead while visiting shooting ranges.
Lead can cause serious and permanent health problems. Even low levels over years or decades can cause damage. That's why it is important for workers and employers to do everything they can to lower the amount of lead in the workplace.
You can find more information on how to prevent lead poisoning at shooting ranges below. For questions about workplace lead safety, contact the Occupational Lead Poisoning Prevention Program: 1-866-627-1587, toll-free in California, or email [email protected].

I thought these issues, that is, wetlands and migratory birds was addressed with the mandatory use of steel shot. Or is the UN behind the eight-ball?
In California it is crazy. Say for instance your club is shooting into rivers streams or wet lands there is a possibility that ranges all of them could be shut down. There are enough advocates for this to become a reality. I can't remember if in our ammunition changes if there was a section to stop the shooting of led at clubs. We have so many liberal here that anything is possible.
I posted this thread so clubs that haven't gone to steel shot yet it is likely it will happen. The question is when. In one of those articles it talks about every time we shoot we put lead in the air. Like smoking is considered as second hand smoke Will lead in the air from your shot be considered as second hand lead the shooter next to you.
