I've been reading a series of novels by Joseph Heywood featuring his "Woods Cop". They all take place in Michigan's UP. Good reads about tough cops.

Being a possum cop is very risky...........nearly everyone you meet in the field is armed!

I agree it is a wonder it doesn’t happen more often.
In my younger years I thought I might like working in the Fish & Wildlife area.
At the time they had openings as a Game Warden, I was not brave enough for that job.

Seems like Conservation Officers are in the field a lot on their own and back-up could be far away. Sounds like their investigating it as an unintentional shooting of the officer. The idiots may have been shooting at a deer decoy.
