Ok. I give up.

Wife's computer - IE 7 connot display the webpage for Google for about a week.

XP Home, 2002 Version SP2

Her laptop works with the same cable. Must be the NIC except that it shows that it's connected to the LinkSys router just fine. Light on Nic is on, lights on router are on. Diags for Nic show no problem.

Diags for IE7 shows "No DNS servers" among other problems.

Can't ping itself. Can ping others.

RE: IE 7 connot display the webpage for Google for about a week

Not a computer expert....

Did you try turning off (unplug) your router for at least 30 seconds.

I've had my laptop go down (not display certain pages), but the main computer would work fine. I have to turn the router off and on for it to work properly.

Also, you may want to try to a System Restore from a point just prior to the problem and see if that fixes the problem.

Rebooted modem and router. No help.

Disabled MS Firewall. No help.

Will try to load FireFox next.

Thanks, Joe

I believe it's just a local number - local to your network and mine, so thay can be the same.

Couldn't get to the internet on my computer after changing the router as suggested. Default page timed out.

Don't want to pay any money for this fix.

Ran msconfig and found a good restore point. Done.

Will fiddle with Windows update so I'm more aware of what MS is doing.

Thanks for the suggestions everybody.

HMB - I tweaked the Windows update service so it won't install automatically. Instead I have to say - ok. This way I'm aware of when MS does something and if my internet access fails again, I know a likely culprit.

I picked a restore point prior to their last updgrade and it worked. Not conclusive, but Holga is happy.

I was about to run the installs and I see for "KB958215 problems" Google produced the following, "Whenever I install MS update of KB958215 my IE stops accessing the internet. Any ideas ?"

Hah.

Also found you can call 1-866-PCSAFETY for free support with issues on their KB upgrades, but there are too many digits in the number. Later...
