I have an old BT-99 that is definately in need of a facelift. I have been kicking around the idea of another finish on the receiver and forend iron rather than the standard blue.

Anyone had positive / negative issues with these "alternative finishes" and who did the work?

Is there something else? All comments appreciated.

Ron Mahovsky does the Metalife finish...

I've had several pistols, rifles, and shotguns done. Each one has been done well, and the finish lasts... He is spectacular in what he does.

I would go with either of the first two. I like the idea of things like cerakote. I spray duracote on most of my hunting guns, but I wouldn't do it to my BT. I would look good from far but far from good IMO.

I've always been partial to the soft nickle finish (if that's what you call it) that Doug Braker uses. I hear lots of good things on this site about his work.
