Looks like the Obama White House and the BATFE are ramping up a new set of gun regs - executive order style.

Aimed at tracing guns lost 'in transit' between FFL's/manufacturers/wholesalers and the like, but given their histories one can only imagine what that really means.

Keep an ear to the ground for the public comment period - due in a few weeks.

The missing firearms will show up sooner or later when BATF does a compliance check.

What BATF should do is to use the carrot approach, not the stick.

Dealers get dinged on compliance checks for missing firearms. We've had a couple of local dealers forced to give up their FFL because of this.

Instead, make prompt reporting of missing firearms result in an amnesty for that firearm during a compliance check. This will provide an incentive for dealers to keep on top of inventory.

No need to get punitive with it. Because if ignored, that takes care of itself during the compliance check.
