Need help picking a Semi

I shoot trap A LOT. On occasion I get to shoot a continental bird hunt which is an odd set up. I shoot on those days around 7-8 boxes of 1-1/4 Oz #5’s at 1450fps. They are deadly and I have a blast! Using an O/U I can barely raise my arm for the next two days. I want to find a semi to not only help with the recoil but also hold a few more shells. I’ve taken a Benelli SBE2 out twice now and it’s flawless but still has some bite to it. I like the simplicity of the gun. That being said, I am a Browning shooter and have a lot of brownings which I shoot competivtively. I really like the Browning Maxus Ultimates but never shot one and am afraid of 200-250 dirty-heavy reloads without a cleaning will give the complex gas system some issues.

So I’m torn between the New Browning Maxus Ultimate 2 or the Benelli Montefeltro Silver. Any semi guys opinions out there would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Don’t know much about the Browning semi autos but the Benelli’s are great hunting guns but they’re inertia guns so you get the full recoil and.. the Benelli’s are on the light side which adds to the pain. The gas guns are much better on recoil. My favorite auto is the Beretta A400. The kickoff adds more to recoil reduction. Runs as well as the Benelli and as good of quality. Great resale.

Have and use Beretta A400s. They go a lot farther than 200/300rounds between cleaning. I don't even think about cleaning until 500 rounds. Even that is to often. The misconception about needing to clean a gas operated shot gun. Comes from the past when the Remington 1100. Was it. It's just not true any more. With a quality Simi and good ammo.

Can’t speak for Browning Semi autos but I have Benelli and Beretta autos and love them. Benelli is lighter but weight is easily added as I have done on mine. Can’t go wrong with either of these choices. I prefer the Beretta 390/391s to the newer 400s. Good luck and good shooting, Rey

No recoil reduction, with the mechanical operating system used in Benelli's!!! A Poor choice indeed for a hunting, and for a target shotgun as well.

Have and use Beretta A400s. They go a lot farther than 200/300rounds between cleaning.
The Beretta's work on a gas-driven operating system. This takes out some of the punch of the shells. The 390's, 391's, the A-300, or A-400 Auto's will not let you down. Both make great target and hunting shotguns. My 391 has 3 inch chambers as well. This will allow you the larger payloads, & speeds needed for hunting? break em all Jeff

I used to work at a trap, skeet & sporting clays range & we had all sorts of rental shotguns including the maxis & benelli’s. If I was buying a semi auto, I’d go with the Beretta A400 in any of its configurations. They simply hold up better than the others. (By a long shot!) That’s why I bought an A400 for duck & goose hunting. Now I use it for all hunting situations especially when I know I’m going to shoot a lot of birds! I used to have a couple benellis but too much recoil at the same type shoots & sold them in after I bought the A400.

Look for a good used Remington V3. Softest shooting 3” semi auto I have ever shot. The gas system will go a long ways between cleanings. A Remington versamax is a really soft shooter too but is a 3.5” gun. Both run my 7/8 oz reloads without a hiccup. I ran my versamax 2k rounds after buying it before cleaning. Still just chucked the shells out one right after another.

This isn’t helping!!! Haha. Adding a gun when I finally had it narrowed down to 2 is killing me. I don’t like the looks or feel of the berettas. I really never had and I can’t explain it. I don’t really like the blue or bronze receivers either. I’d prefer something with great wood and a silver receiver. This isn’t going in a duck blind, probably not even bad weather. Benelli makes a few beauties but the recoil is still very high. I just don’t know much about Brownings semis for dependability. Anyone shoot a Maxus a lot? Are they reliable or troublesome?

I always liked this one and it doesn’t have a receiver with a goofy color. Plus Rich will do a nice trigger job on it.
