My son shot some of the KY ATA shoot after AIM was finished. He won D class runner up on the preliminary singles event. He shot a 96 and was tied for runner up. The next day he shot another singles event for the tie breaker carryover and he hit 91. I was super proud of him. He shot at 400 singles and 100 handicaps throughout the week and his scores each time were in the 90s.

So So close.....At the AIM Grand this week my son shot fairly well. He dipped down in handicaps with an 88 but everyone was down in their scores. Must have been the wind or nerves. On the first day of singles, he broke a 91.

But on Tuesday's back 100 singles is where he really shined out. He ran his 1st ever 50 straight. That was awesome, but to put the icing on the cake, he finished the round with a 99 (25 25 24 25). He finished with a singles total of 190/200. He had gotten bumped up to AA class for the grand so he finished tied for 14th. He's normally classed as a B class or A class. If he would have been classed in either of those, he would have been top 3. Not bad for a 2nd year shooter. I'm a super proud dad after that trip!

Of course he got to meet Harlan at the Remington booth.

We now have finished up the 2020 "short" season for AIM & 4-H. He finished the AIM zone shoot tied for 1st place in sub jr c class with a 94, and then he tied for 2nd but lost the tiebreaker in the state 4-H shoot with a 96. He missed the very last target on the 4-H shoot. If he would have hit it, he would have been 1st place. So close but so far!

This season had its ups and downs with his scores (his highest ever and the lowest ever). I think mostly it was due to him growing 6" in a 4 month span. We finally caught the gun fit up to his new body size and he finished both seasons on high notes (190/200 in AIM Grand & 96/100 in 4-H). He also finished 2nd in the 4-H rifle shoot along with several state team awards in rifles & pistols.

He's going to take a break from shooting for the winter and focus on some hunting & fishing. We will pick it up again come spring. Thanks for following along with us.

Another season is well underway. He's now 14 and still shooting as a sub jr. He shot on the high school trap team as a middle schooler earlier this spring. He carried a 23 average over a 5 week span. He didn't fair very well at the high school state shoot, only putting up an 86/100, but he had just gotten braces on his teeth. We had to readjust the comb for this.

Earlier this week he shot in the KY Aim shoot. He finished singles with a 187/200 (96 & 91) and was good enough to tie for 5th place sub jr. His sub jr squad once again won 1st place. He shot in the ATA event #1 prelim singles and event #2 handicaps. Staying up all night caught up with him on his first box (18) and he finished singles with an 89/100. He had gun issues on handicaps the first 2 boxes resulting in scores of 19-19. The score keeper gave me time to get it fixed and he finished the round with a 24-24 for a total of 86/100. The 86 was still good enough to finish 5th place sub jr.

Now to get some more practice in and get ready for Sparta.

My 12 year old son started shooting in March of this year. He started shooting with an AIM team from West KY. He has consistently been shooting 22 or better each round for the past month. He's shot several 23-24, but has always come up short on 25 straight around the #18-21 clay. Earlier this week he shot at the KY State Shoot and finally ran his first 25 straight on the 3rd set. He was so excited he couldn't stay focused and blew the last round with a 20. He finished the day shooting a 90 and 89. His squad took home 3rd place in sub jr team.

Another trap season has came and gone. The AIM Grand didn't go as expected. We bought him a new gun and he just had to shoot it for his singles event. It wasn't a terrible score, but not great either (low 90s). This weekend we shot our 4-H state shoot. The new gun was treating him really well with 24s and 25s every round until 2 weeks ago. He grew 2" and we couldn't get it adjusted like we wanted before the shoot, but he did improvise while shooting to try and figure out what was going on. He figured out it was shooting really low and started looking above the targets to get through the round. He shot in the 80s, but his squad did finish in 3rd place which is a first for our county. He also won 1st place .22 pistol team, 1st place BB rifle team, and 3rd place individual with the BB rifle. Overall it was a pretty good weekend for him. This season as a whole had several bumps due to growing spurts. We would get his gun adjusted and he would win events, 2-3 weeks later his scores would drop drastically. Then we would have to start all over again. Hopefully next season the adjustments won't have to be so drastic as it was this year. Here's a few pics from this weekend. He's the one with the gray shirt on post 3.

He was making it hard on the older guys today at the weekly fun money shoot. Tied for 2nd in the 25 bird race, won several 5 across rounds, and hitting the colored money bird. He only missed 3 shots all day. It was a great day for him.

Goal #1 completed. He is the captain of the KY Sub Jr AIM All-State Team. He wasn't eligible for the All-star or All-zone team due to not shooting doubles. The All-State team uses only the singles average.
