It is an inherent issue. The plastic piece must fit over the metal mounting ball loose enough to align itself with the hull's crimp lines, and to be interchangeable 6-point with 8-point. The situation is made worse if you frequently change 6 to 8 and back again. I just keep a spare or two and don't worry about it. In my experience, the current design is so much better than the older one that it's worth the minor cost of replacement when needed. -Ed
If you are someone who switches back and forth between 8 point and 6 point, don't change them by popping them on and off the ball stud. Use a wench and change the whole assembly. That greatly extends the life of the crimp starter.
