Maryland State Shoot

I just received my Maryland ATA shooting schedule. Attached to the schedule was a donation letter to build and improve the state grounds. I just wanted to comment, this is crazy. We had grounds which where far better than the state grounds. Our repersentatives have really made a bad decision when moving the state shoot. A lot of fokes have contributed to make the grounds at Thurmont work. So I say you guys that moved the grounds need to pay for the new grounds not us. We need A/C, more bath rooms, more transportation through out the grounds, and state delegates who care about the shooters not their stupid pride.

Boy, thats a kick in the face to all of us that put our time and effort into getting the grounds ready! No one said anyone had to donate anything, There are some people that can and will donate. It could have been a bad move. We shall see, But just be thankful we have a place to hold a State Shoot. And be thankful for the unselfish people that put in time and effort.

By the way whats your name so we can get better ideas on the grounds.

I am with dave i can not shoot any more but i still send something for our state shoot THE REBEL
I come from PA and I am glad to see the shoot has moved back to your homegrounds. You people ran a great shoot. We will be back this year. When I was told that you planned to move from Millington I took a trip to the homegrounds when we were at Gettysburg. When I seen the place after 20+ years I thought how in the world will they ever have a shoot here. Much less have it ready in 3 years. My son and I were at the fundraiser shoots and each time the place got better! We were at the state shoot in 2012. The place is not perfect, but my hat is off to all the people who worked so I had a place to shoot. I am sure that each year we will all see more upgrades at the grounds. What so many don"t think about is with each upgrade no matter how big or small it costs money. What you see is a guy bitching about a $20 donation to put his name on a chair. That is the same guy who will be bitching up a storm if he has no place to shoot his $10,000 trap gun. Keep up the good work You should be proud of what you have done. Bob Foose, Smokinold32

Yeah and cant even post his name ha ha!!!!
Not sure if this is helps the discussion...according to babycenter.com, Releigh is a girls name that is unpopular (the name, not the girl).
Everyone is entitled to thier opinion , but no one should be bashed for any volenteer work to inprove a club, and a club with such history as Thrmont
Many folks have donated countless hours to make the new/old homegrounds a success, and from this vantage point they've done a great job. It is a good, no, great place to shoot, centrally located with a strong infrastructure in support. Excellent highways, food & lodging nearby. Um, did I mention the Hardshels at Rube's Crab shack in Emmitsburg? That's my bride of 42yrs last Sunday evening on the occasion of that anniversary.

I donated quite a bit of money years ago when the land was purchased LONG before many of you were shooting and some not even born! And , if I recall there is still a "maintenance fee" of $1.00 per hundred being collected for this reason. Now you need more.

Sounds like a typical bunch of Maryland democrats. Why don't you see if O'Mally , Miller and Busch can add another tax?
I have never shot in the Maryland state shoot; however, I do like to travel throughout the east. Can one of you fine Marylanders tell me the dates for your state shoot and where the shoot will be held? Thanks.
Donne, the place went fallow while the pissing contest was going on, and everything fell apart. There has been a tremendous amount of work being done to set it to rights, much of it volunteer and donated by an active group of dedecated folks. Please go to Thurmont & give it a look before you pass judgement. While you're at it, look at the attendance stats for the Millington shoots VS where they were at Thurmont, and hopefully, where they'll go. Remember there's the Eastern Zone shoot, and the Westy Hogans now on the table as well, although there many who say it ain't gonna happen.
If you can remember years ago the Zone and the Westy and even our state shoot was a flop for years at millington, I am not bashing Millington by all means. its one of my favorite places to shoot but it just dosent bring the crowd.
Releigh...really??..It sounds like a request not a requirement..we all know the cost of running and maintaining stuff has skyrocketed..givem a break dude or dudette whatever the case may be..I wont be shooting Thurmont but would at least like to see it again
Bandit , I am well aware of what happened with the "homegrounds" and why the shoot was moved to Millington. I do not hold any malice towards the people who did or are doing the volunteer work at thurmont. Actually I have applauded their effort in the past right here on this site. However , the way the move was conducted and the malice shown to one individual in particular was sub-par , or maybe not for some of the people involved.

I have been to thurmont during the years when Trapshooting was popular and witnessed the large turnouts. But if anyone thinks the move back to thurmont will bring back those crowds the Hogan and zone , he's smoking wacky weed. The attendance for the 2012 state shoot was not that much more than Millington and I suspect that it was because of the novelty of the return. Time will tell. You may also want to look at the scores that won the events and compare them to Millington.

Trapshooting , as a whole is suffering all over and finger pointing and crying about the good old days of $10 targets and $2.50 shells is not going to solve anything. Maryland is not a gun friendly state and the gov. will try to do anything to press his agenda , whatever that may be. We should be keeping each and every club viable because once they are gone thats it. I'll continue to support most of the clubs as long as I'm physically able and can afford to , but I'm worried about which will come first.

I know several of the volunteers who have put in long hours over the last several years getting Thurmont up to speed. As far as I'm concerned they should be proud of what they have accomplished, the 2012 State Shoot was my first state shoot and I was impressed with how well everything went.

I for one appreciate the effort they have put out to get Thurmont to where it is, instead of criticizing we should be helping to make it even better, shooters are their own worst enemy.
