I am interested in buying a new forestock for my M12. A person said be carefull there are 3 series of M12 forestocks. A series 1,2 & 3.

How do I tell the differance?

I believe he's referring to the three types of action slides. Original one piece (up to about 1954), "Dog Leg" (only lasted about 2-years....bad idea) and newer 2-piece with the action bar welded along side and extending about an inch along the slide tube. Means 3 different types of in-letting of the forend wood you are looking for if you want it to "drop-in". Otherwise, they all can be made to fit where they weren't intended to, like most things. #1 Early narrow round corn cob style [approx. 1912-1940]
#2 Slightly larger style with vertical grooves on the side and a flat bottom
[approx. 1940-1955]
#3 Much larger slightly extended forearm with grooves around the entire circumference. [approx. 1955-1964]

These were for only field guns.
