Can anyone tell me how or what I have to do .to release the bolt in my M-1 Carbine I closed the gun on an EMPTYY casing to check firing pin function. It sounded normal but now the bolt won't pull back to open the chamber and eject the empty. Thanks for any heip. olrusty---Jack Montgomery

Try tapping the operating rod handle with a rubber mallet/Rawhide mallet. Case is stuck/not sized /fired and not resized. Might have to put cleaning rod down barrel if op rod comes back without case on extractor. Next time resize case before trying. Hope that helps! Good Luck and God Bless everyone out there! Mike

OK eaglewinggunsmithman ------that did it. I hit the rod handle just a couple of times and out came the bolt and empty case. Thank you for the advice. Unfortunately for me , the firing pin IS stuck. So now I can work on this problem. Thanks again. Olrusty

Firing pin is free floating in the bolt. If it is stuck you have issues. Best to disassemble the bolt and check this.
