I've seen a couple of other threads on the Las Vegas 1000 but since I wanted to say so much I thought I'd start my own. What an experience!! First off, this new facility is unreal. It has to be seen to be believed. Pictures can't do it justice. The skeet houses and stone wall extensions are so perfect they seem out of place. I walked the line and checked it out and was very impressed. The trap fields face the mountain near where the rifle and pistol ranges are located - maybe a half mile away. There is a slight elevation gain so you can see all of Las Vegas behind you. Plenty of RV parking, parallel with the line, with full hookups at $20.00 per day. A large tent was erected for the dealers with tables and chairs for the card players and racks to park your gun between shoots. Past the tent was the club house with the eating area where the food was good at very reasonable prices. The shoot itself was a blast! The whole package was the most fun we've ever had at a shoot. It was obvious from the beginning that Gary and Jim and the volunteers worked their butts off to make this event work. And indeed it did do that. They did a fantastic job. At one evening gathering Jim explained to me how they built the people mover from the ground up - quite a feat. I knew a few people there and was fortunate enough to meet a lot more. I shot on a squad with people I hadn't known before and hopefully will shoot with them again next year. No one knew each other but that didn't stop us from having a lot of laughs. One day the shoot was cancelled because of very strong winds and a threatening electrical storm - good decision. I was glad. Under the circumstances it was possible to open more fields the next two days and add back the postponed events. It gave me the opportunity to go play blackjack at the charity event in the tent. I had built up a small fortunate only to have it reduced to 0 by a very unsympathic dealer. I don't know how that man expects to go to heaven. Then to top it all off the people at the table made fun of me as I walked off totally rejected. Most fun I've ever had gambling! Respect at a shooting event is sometimes very limited. My wife showed up with a bus load of ladies and did much better, racking up enough points playing craps to be eligible for a prize at the awards dinner. She thoroughly enjoyed herself, having met a nice group of ladies with whom she had a good time everyday. I would like to have won a trophy but I shot poorly and didn't deserve it. My wife had her choice of prizes and asked for my assistance. Being the gentleman that I am, I helped her select HER prize, a sleeve of primers. That was my trophy. Then there is the night life if you care to see the shows. There are shows at your hotel or you can take a taxi or the monorail to where the most action is. The dinner, which was included, was very well done. The food was great and the awards ceremony fun. You can drive to the club, about 40 minutes, or take the shooters bus for free. If you weren't there you blew it but, you can attend next year! If you are a panty waist complainer I suggest you stay home. If you want to come for a good time with some nice people at a first class facility run by some first class people, by all means come next year. Life is what you make it! Larry Marvier
