I was looking for a .45 1911 to use a truck gun. I'm not looking for anything nice. worn and rusty no problem.

Something to leave in the truck that I would not lose sleep if stolen.

Thanks, shannon

I'll be the hall monitor much as I hate it.

Leaving a firearm in your vehicle unattended for long periods is a bad idea even if it's something cheap you don't mind losing.

Anything you keep around to bet your life on if it comes to it ought to be of good if not great quality. Like we used to say in motorcycles, If you have a $20 head then get a $20 helmet.

How is it that people are not concerned about firearms being stolen? Forget the cost of the gun, but what about the guy that uses it to commit murder? Don't you have any concerns about being responsible with a firearm?

I am 1000% pro-gun, but also for RESPONSIBLE ownership and not just "throw it in the car and hope it doesn't get stolen!"

I'll also vote for Rock Island Arsenal. They make a good quality, basic, reliable 1911 in 45, 9mm, and 38 Super. Right now delivered to your FFL from Bud's Guns for $385

Wow, you are asking for a lot of trouble leaving a loaded gun in your truck. If something happens you and only you will be responsable. And besides the obvious risk, a semi auto rattling around in a truck may not go bang when you want it to!

Cheers,

George

Nope. This pretty much sums it up. Any need for protection does not require your loaded firearm to be left behind in the truck to be stolen when you are not there. He might have a valid need for protection and I'm sure that he probably has a carry piece. Leaving a loaded one in the truck unsecured is different.

Shannon--There is a Kahr/Thompson 1911 in 10mm for sale here on this site for $495. That's not too bad price wise and the 10mm is more than adequate for a protection round. Link above. Just say'n...................

Setterman has it,

I'm a contractor that provides bids at several places a day, some of these places do not allow handguns in their buildings so I lock my carry gun in my truck vault with other expensive and dangerous tools.

It comes in with me at night. I want to start with a basic .45 then build it to my specs.

Paul, your an idiot. And by the way, I've bought and sold many guns on this site over the last seven-eight years.

I do take the loss of any firearm serious but I would REALLY hate to lose my Wilson Compact.

Remstar311,

Thanks,

It's actually a Caesar Guerini sticker that was given to me by the factory rep when I made my states first team...

Kim Rodes, Gold medalist, had her coveted trap gun stolen from her truck last year or so ago, I hope she recovered it and no one was hurt.

Let me understand!!!

His gun, his truck. If he locks the truck, he has taken reasonable steps to secure the gun. So........some clown breaks in (making Shannon391 a crime victim) and now he's the bad guy. Blame the victim??? Is it different if it's a trap gun that's stolen and used in a crime? Is it different if it's stolen from his house or off his belt? I don't think so. You guys deserve a "Democrat of America" badge hand signed by Obummer and another glass of the Kool-Aid.

Bob, read the thread again in chronological order. The info about the secured gun was posted AFTER his initial comments and mine and other responses. I doubt you'll find many democrats, but you will find people who care about being responsible firearm owners.

And say, for example, that your firearm is left UNLOCKED and then stolen and used in a crime, you bet your ass that YOU will be on the hot seat for it.

Who ever said anything about loaded and unlocked?

You guys are the ones jumping to conclusions. I don't keep it on the dash next to the mason jar of shine, or in the glove box with all the unpaid tickets.

I'm a law biding ccw holder that has never even had a traffic violation or ticket.

There are certain advantages to a face to face private party transactions on a well used gun ....

I gotta warn you Shannon about starting with a plain Jane .45 (and I think you have been down this road) Its almost impossible to resist the temptation to fix em' up. First it is just a few things for reliability, then its a good barrel and bushing, then before you know it you have a high zoot piece.

Anyway, if you can find one, Springfield Armory use to make a bare bones - mil spec 1911 back in the early 90's that was an exceptional value. They made quite a few of them too but a lot of them (like mine) were the basis for a custom gun.

"When you say something to leave in the truck and not lose sleep over" I don't think it's a stretch to think you planned on leaving it in the truck all the time. Way too many people do that evidenced by the number of guns stolen out of vehicles reported on this little corner of the gun world.

Now you fill in the rest of the details and try to make those of us who take firearms responsibility seriously look like ninnies. My first sentence was I hate to be hall monitor. The only reason I said anything was because of the way you worded your OP. Sounds like you are talking about running in and out all day and not leaving it in your truck overnight. That's an acceptable situation although I would consider a deep concealment rig so I could just carry it with me all the time. You will probably need it when it's locked up in the truck if Mr Murphy has his way. Good day Sir.

#23 ·
Respectfully,

That deep concealment rig, could land me in jail bidding work at the local school or other gov, bldg. Your advise is unknowingly inviting me to break the law. Even if I did decide to leave my firearm in my truck overnight, I'm breaking no Michigan law, {but I don't}.

My truck alarm and vault is more secure than half the homes I work in, and It's also my personal property, (just like your home is}. What if somebody steals YOUR whole truck and uses the vehicle to kill someone? would you be held responsible?

I will admit I should have not been so "loose" with my opening request, never thought it would be twisted into this.

Thanks all, I'm off to the gun store, hopefully they don't run me off....

I think there has been overreaction on both sides, my feathers were ruffled when you implied for others not to help me find a used hand gun because of responsibility issues.

We could argue finer points of gun law all day, I follow them to the letter.

Sincerely enjoy your trapshooting, It's good we talk of these things.

"Something to leave in the truck that I would not lose sleep if stolen".

So just how in the hell are we supposed to iterpret this statement? If your truck has an alarm and safe why are you so conserned that it would be stolen?

There are more know it all pompous asses per capita on this site than any other site I have ever visited!

They take great delight on jumping into every thread, and look for some insignificant misspelling and/or something to bitch about!
