After regaining my composure this afternoon after watching the True Story, very factual and realistic movie. I have concluded that we MUST stop putting our children in harms way in a piece of crap country like Afghanistan! Any thoughts?

Blade, I absolutely agree even if I didn't see the movie yet.

Those people in that region have been fighting for a couple of thousand years, and no matter what we do, they are not going to embrace us, the other tribes, or anyone. They are what they are, and whether it is us, Russia or whomever it will not matter. They will be fighting a thousand years from now.

We are, like anyone that is not Muslim, infidels in their eyes, and we will always be infidels.Their religion tells them they must lie to the Infidels and we will not change that. No matter how much negotiating we do or how much money we pay them they will not deal with us with respect and integrity.

The sooner our Politicians learn this the better off we will be. Bulge.

My recommendations are:

1) Assassinate that POS Karziz
2) Spray every poppy field with Agent Orange
3) Withdraw all troops immediately
4) Seize all Afghanistan assets in US and distribute to families who sacrificed so much

I agree with Blade and Bulge. Time to get out of that money and life draining toilet. Getting rid of that snake Karzai ain't a bad idea, either.

The key words are "in a piece crap country like Afghanistan". Not sure there is anything to gain in Afghanistan, but Afghanistan harbors and grows the anti American activists/extremists of the world.

Let them expand?

Easy to condemn, not so easy to find the real answer/solution.

I'm sure Afghanistan feels the same way, after all, the four SEALS were there to whack a tribal leader.

If it wasn't for all the liberal heroin junkies in the US. they would be severely underfunded.

I read the book and found it very moving and powerful, but I do have to ask, why are we fighting a war with goat herder's that already live in the stone age. Russia fought them for ten years, we have now been their longer.

Marcus and his men fought hard and brave, in the end he was very lucky a honest family leader, risked it all to protect and hide him from the Taliban.

Don't get me wrong I have the utmost respect for the SEALS and all of our military men, many in my family. I just don't think one of our mens life, is worth losing over there, but that's what they do....

Shannon thank you for clarifying that all heroin junkies are liberals. Where did you get that info? The heroin money has been keeping the Taliban together for about 40 years. They survive because of that POS Karzia taking bribes from them for protection then taking US dollars at the same time. Kill the poppies, kill the Taliban.

I couldn't agree more. Like every war we have fought since WWII, we aren't there to win. If we aren't there to win, why are we there, and whatever the reason is, does it justify what we have done to yet another generation of young Americans?

Best way to stop some of this garbage from repeating itself is,

First, any conflicts started, ALL congress and senate members SHALL put their siblings in the "front lines" no exemptions period!

Second, there will be NO OFF LIMIT bombing targets, EVERY square inch of said country is a target.

Third, ALL service personal once "conflict" is started, shall be required to carry a firearm WITH ammo 24/7 until Peace is secured.

One of the dead SEAL's, Danny Dietz, was from my AO. There was a movement to honor his life with a Bronze Statue. The libshits had a fit. Can't have a statue with an ASSAULY WEAPON on display. It will give the kids ideas. Stupid civilians don't have any IDEA what goes on in a "shithole like Afghanistan". Stupid civillians don't have any IDEA that the goofball liberal/communist/socialist/progressive 'protesters' agenda is not to protest the war but to convince the stupid civilians that the war is wrong. No matter the war. If the US is involved then it must be unjust and not worth fighting. Their goal is to undermine the US as a nation. They have done so. It is politics to them and blood doesn't matter so long as it isn't their own blood.

I wish you folks could stand back and see what your thoughts look like from inside the head of a man who spent 3 years and 8 months in Southeast Asia and has a son who has spent 5 years in Northwest Asia. It looks remarkably like none of you appreciate the real need to make the war THERE and keep it away from HERE. Wasn't 9-11-01 a lesson? Wasn't 12-7-41 a lesson? What price would you pay to make certain that no city in the USA looks like Baghdad or Kabul or even Sochi in Russia? No price?

timberfaller.... believe it or not, I agree with you more than I disagree. If you look back at DC history you'll find hundreds of our elected and non elected officials who avoided service/ draft by family influence, fake medical conditions, even marriage and child bearing because of convenience. My most personal case since I was drafted in 1966 and a native Hoosier is the case of Dan Quayle. His parents were very influential business people and miraculously he jumped a hundred or so candidates to get into the Indiana National Guard. This was during the time that Reserves or Guard units stayed in the US.

Just came back from seeing this movie, hardly a dry eye in the audience exiting. I hope I don't get any BS about my WWII "Todah Menorah" after all it has 9 life sized rifles, grenades & trenching shovels.

blade, ANG began deploying to SE Asia about 1965 and NG deployed in force by 1968. Many reservists fought and died over there, so let's not perpetuate the "staying home" myth.

Lithium. One of the main reasons we are there in Afghanistan.

Have not seen the movie, yet.

I would definitely not see "The Monuments Men" with George Clooney & Matt Damon. They are liberal anti gun elites that use hypoctritically gratuitous gun violence in their movies that make them millions. Those millions are used against 2nd amendment rights by spreading anti gun propaganda. They also contribute heavily to Obama and his liberal agenda. Do not support the Hollywood agenda! It's against your best interests.

Always believed that all American citizens should serve at least two years of military duty when they turn 18. Just like so many of our foreign allies conscript their citizens. Might teach a good percentage some responsibility
and to have a greater appreciation of their freedoms.

Hat's off to all of our American servicemen. I cannot fathom serving for this CIC.

I just got back from watching this movie. It's definitely worth seeing, especially for younger people who don't realize the sacrifices soldiers make for us. It's also reminds us that not everyone in the middle east is our enemy (I catch myself forgetting that pretty frequently).

For the record, the Taliban took great religious exception to drug manufacture. They are wacko's for sure, but eliminating poppies will only turn the country back into a terrorist state. (See the referenced articles, written for PBS, no less, and http://opioids.com/afghanistan/index.html written by the UN.) Suggesting the use of 245T (Agent Orange) is just about the height of liberal hypocrisy, though all too typical in character.

Afghanistan is known historically as the "Destroyer of Kingdoms" from the time of Alexander the Great. It is a backward collection of sand and Islam that needs to be isolated. However, leave the internal working to themselves. They were occupied with War Lord feuds when the Russian's invaded, and had returned to that when the US did the same.

The well researched and written book,"The HAj", by Leon Uris details the centuries instilled mindset of these people: "..I learned at a very early age that it was me against my brothers, the brothers against our father, our family against the tribe; and all of us against the Infidels".

We should invent and practice immigration-style border-patrol with LOS armed drones around the circumference of Afghanistan. No country is safe when it's borders are as porous as ours. The first order of security is denial of access. There is a lot to be learned from such a venture, and our dollars will be doing double duty during the development/learning process.

This war is a very complicated mess that have we've remained in for too long. We have now lost 1000 more American lives during the Obama siege on America, more lives than during the Bush43 years, with no end in sight.

And, yes, I blame the liberals. Had they stuck by their political guns and opposed this war, we would be in a much better position today. Being "against it, before I was for it.." is paving the road to Hell. Where are the cries of the liberals now, the nightly body counts on the lame stream news? Where are the votes in congress to cut off funding, now that the liberals are pocketing the war profits?

Try as you might, wars can not be political animals, they are blood and guts and the worst of human nature. It is the ultimate responsibility of our politicians to avoid war, not promote it. When wars absolutely must be fought, it should be done with absolute force, immediately brought to bear. Done with the full intent to bring about a rapid victory and an abrupt end to the hostilities.

We are not the "world's policeman". Human conflict is as certain as the Sun rise. Human suffering will never be over, no matter how much blood and treasure we throw at it to assuage ourselves of liberal false-guilt.

On 9/12 we had a clear target, and what should have been an even more clear goal - to eliminate any further threat from these types. We failed, for lack of political will and meddling, for pure beltway greed. The same greed that Johnson got us into Viet Nam over. Every day since we have had the opportunity to correct that failure, and don't.

This may be a good movie, but the true lessons from it will never be learned by those that desperately need it. And, I will never send one cent of my money to Hollyweird to see it.

IMHO,
Kip
