I know this is a long shot but I thought I would give it a try.

In February of 1964 just prior to the release of the GI Joe Action Figure by Kenner Toy Company located in Cincinnati, several prototypes were also produced of the GI Doc Action Figure. As we all know, GI Joe went into full production and became a multi-million dollar success for Kenner, who was purchased by Tonka and subsequently purchased by Hasbro.

The three prototype GI Doc Action Figures were rumored to have been stolen from the R&D Dept. during the transition from Kenner to Tonka.

Please let me know if you have one or know of one.

Price is no object!

This is a copy of a print found in the Kenner archives depicting the missing action figure.

I worked in the advertising department during the transition phase. Where things seemed to go wrong was with some of the proposed tag lines. For example:
  • GI Doc takes “stick it up your a$$” to a new level
  • Get the first appointment of the day, so the ‘scope doesn’t taste like sh%!
  • The endoscope is near
  • Play with him ‘til you’re pooped
  • He teaches grammar; (semi colon)
  • GI Doc: all guts, no glory
