    looks like a ring finger grove. I could be wrong thou.

    Yes, it is a crack. Running down from the trigger guard cut.

    it is a crack. i think too tight to get glue/ epoxy in. appears to be a 1100 rem. easy fix ; drill a hole thru both sides of the crack, using a drill around .010 to .015 smaller that the o.d. of whatever machine screw you use . 6-32 or 8-32. run the screw in with the inside if the hole smeared with epoxy or wood glue. when dry cut off excess screw and clean up. should last forever. (brass screws would be best)

    I build gun stocks and because of the location I would say no. It either is wear or originally in the base wood to start with.

    After looking at it more it has same kind of mark on top of the stock also. I don’t have a pic of it right now.
