I bought a S&W 10-4 nickel plated revolver and it has a couple of small rust spots (about the size of a pencil eraser or smaller). What can I use to remove the rust yet not hurt the nickel plating?

Semi-chrome, Flitz, or other metal polishing compounds will work just fine. It'll also leave a nice film that'll help prevent any more rust from forming.

Naval jelly will remove all the rust and not touch the nickel. Edit to add you must get all traces of oil off before you use it or it won't work. Learned about this stuff years ago, could buy a set of chrome wheels that were rusted up and looked like hell soak them in Naval Jelly and they would come out looking great. Also did many nickel guns, you need to oil up good afterwood or the rust will come back, it won't remove pits of course but will take the rust off.

Here's a tip,,,,,,Don't let that Naval Jelly anywhere close to a blued gun. It is almost the best bluing remover ever created.
