I load almost that exact load. Just loaded several hundred last night.

My recipe: Remington STS Hull, Fed 209A primer, 19.6 grains of Green Dot (PW M bushing), Downrange DRHRF8 (Fig 8 clone with windjammer style 8 petal shot cup), 1-1/8 oz 7.5 West Coast Shot

According to the Alliant data, these components would require 20.5 gr of Green Dot to hit 1200 fps.

548, have you ever used the WT12 Orange wad in place of the Fig 8 clone in your recipe?

No, I have always used the actual Remington Fig 8 wad until last year. Cost for that wad became a factor. I switched to the Downrange and like it better. On a PW, it loads much better too; no folded in petals.

Plus 1 for 548, I also use that DR figure 8 hybrid, works well and it is such a nice color...........that must count for something? Scott

Try the same load in TOP GUNS works great.
I use Promo Powder though.

I dont see a huge pressure difference between the Fig 8 and the orange wad using other powders. I feel I would be fine swapping the fig 8 for the orange wad. I just wanna make sure. Guess I will start with 18.5 and go up? I sent Alliant and E-mail, I sure would love to hear any feed back from this forum.

I think you might want to look up this load again but use the info for the AA wads.The orange W/T wads were made to be a economical replacement for the AA wads. Ray

Up-Date: just to let you know I went to the Aliant web site and found[STS case,11/8oz shot,fed 209-a primer,AA wad,17.5grains reddot= 1045 [email protected] 10,500 psi. Just my opinion that starting at 18.5 gr. maybe a tad "hot",but your gun,your fingers have fun..

Good point Sterlingworth, The WT12 is an economical replacement for the AA. I will re-visit the guide and look at loads using the AA wad and GREEN dot. Corey


update...I checked, no info for AA wad or blue dusters using STS hulls, Green dot, and Fed 209A.

1 1/8oz shot, Green Dot, Rem STS/Nitro/Gun, 1145 f/s & 1200 f/s:

Fio 616, Fig8, 19.0 gr, 7800 psi.

CCI 209M, Fig8, 19.0 gr, 8800 psi; 1200 f/s, 20 gr, 9300 psi.

CCI 209M, WAA12, 19.0 gr, 9400 psi; 1200 f/s, 19 gr, 9600 psi.

Fed 209A, Fig8 & DRRF8, 19.5 gr, 10100 psi; 1200 f/s, 20.5 gr, 10300 psi.

Looking at this data, even though there is no specific load, I would be comfortable substituting the CB WT-12 clone and the Fed 209A at 19.5 gr of Green Dot. That said getting wads shipped to you is easy. If you insist on sticking to published loads during these hard times order some Fig 8 or DRRF8 wads. Cabelas sells Fig 8 wads and their shipping is based on dollar amount.
