I have recently acquired a Franchi 48 AL 20 GA Automatic Shotgun and have a
problem clearing the magazine tube of unfired shells. The gun functions good
when shooting, but will not release shells when the bolt is pulled back by
hand. The only way to clear the magazine of unfired shells is to pull the
barrel back as if it were being fired. Is there something missing or broke?

Have you cleaned the spring in the magazine tube?

There is a small tab on the outside of the magazine tube inside of the receiver. Tab must be pushed in to allow shells to exit the magazine tube.

The gun is clean and lubed. The gun cycles and works fine when fired. I know of
the tab of which ushoot2 speaks, and it works fine as long as the gun is fired
or the barrel is pulled back ( simulating Firing ). It will not release the
shells just by pulling the blot back. What activates the magazine shell catcher
to release the shells from the magazine? and again it works ok as stated above.

When you shoot it does it cycle a load from the magazine to the chamber? Im not really understanding what you are saying. Just pulling the bolt back will not bring a shell out of the magazine

Larry,Flip the gun over press the trap door down press the shell latch which is on the left side. This will release one shell at a time. Paul D

Larry the shell latch is on the inside that is why I say push the trap door down it's the only way you can remove a shell from the tube.

I shoot the AL 3 times a wk at quail---Do what chukar16 says and it will ejeck the shells perfect----No AL will eject the unfired shell by using the bolt---

That's the way it is made.

Had a bunch of them come into the shop loaded because the owner did not know how to unload it without shooting it dry. LOL
