In an attempt to help Bill sell my old gun, I will tell you that the wood is Wenig's highest grade of English Walnut and has 5/16" of right offset with the popular "twisted sister" butt. The pistol grip has a right-hand palm swell and is extended so your little finger has something to grip. The checkering is Wenig's standard pattern (I think some of the fancier patterns are gaudy) and the finish is their $300 extra-cost "deluxe" finish - something on the order of 30 coats of urethane sanded between every two or three coats and requiring three or more weeks to apply. The gun shoots very high - about 140% - but there was a lot of upward rib adjustment left if you would want to lower the POI.

When I bought that KX-5 from Allem's, who also installed the release trigger, my plan was to eventually have a custom-fitted stock made for it, so I went directly to a local stockmaker and had a Graco unit with LOP adjustment installed before I ever shot the gun so I could play around with length. In 2005, I went the last Grand at Vandalia, spoke with several wood vendors and finally selected Wenig's. The list price of the wood was $3,980.

The barrel was backbored from .730" to .745" and otherwise massaged by Stu Wright at Wright's Gunsmithing. Two choke tubes were with the gun - a .021" constriction for singles and a .033" constriction for 27-yard handicap, if I remember correctly, but I used the tighter tube for everything.

These days, I buy guns with our son in mind, for he will have many more years to use them than I. Because of my eye problem, I don't shoot as much as I used to and that stock did not come close to fitting Jason even if it was made adjustable, so when the opportunity to replace the KX-5 with a new Joel Etchen Beretta 687 Silver Pigeon II EELL unsingle combo presented itself, I made the deal.

KX-5s can be changed back to a pull trigger very, very easily, so don't let the release stop you from considering this very nice-shooting gun. When I last saw it, there was hardly a mark on it and I'd wager Bill hasn't done anything to change that.
