These animals fish the backwaters of the Mississippi. But likely there was some skim ice and that made him check out his winter hunting grounds. This largest cottonwood in the area routinely has 2 to 4 birds fishing from it during frozen conditions. The tree is also at the edge of the ice/open water junction because of the current from this tree for the last 2 blcks where the st Croix confludes with the Mississippi. Spellcheck says I jsut made that word up.

Joe. that evil eye is his "wary eye". He will not leave the tree unless you make eye contact with him. If you are outside and gaze at him, he will leave and return when I leave or go inside. Very yellow beak on this bird.

These rest before going out to feed. there are about 500 in this chosen refuge now.

Love the eagle pics...

Here on Long Island NY -- "Canadian" geese are permanent residents ... They never leave & are here by the millions...
