33 - 34 grains? That's about 10 grains heavy ain't it?One of the best things about the Top Guns is that you get to use the 12s3 or the CB3118-AR wads.
These wads have to be one of the best kept secrets in reloading. 33-34 grains of Green Dot and you have some real target crushers in your gun.
1oz shot, 18.7 green dot, Fed primer and AA wad, good results from this recipeWhat load recipes are you folks using for these hulls? A few years ago I tried loading with 1 oz DR wads (lime green) but I had to put in 1 1/8 oz of shot.
They load the same as the others. Just after a few firings they get rather off colored, but still the purchase and thought in the beginning is what matters IMHO.I have not loaded the pink ones But the regular ones typically went 3 to 5 reloads.
I always wanted to reload the pink ones for a buddy that shoots sporting clays,
Thought they were a sharp looking stand out shell and are for a great cause.

The rule of thumb for the Top Guns has been one and out. I have loaded these shells two or three times and have had no issues with the loads. The concern with this type of shell has been the paper base wad coming loose and jamming in the barrel of the gun. I have had more of an issue with primers staying in the shells. The paper base wad doesn't have the retention of plastic base wads. All that being said inspect the hulls after each round to determine their condiction. My wife has been after me for a while to reload the pink Federal Top Gun hulls for her. I resisted as I have been reloading Win and Rem hulls and didn't want to get different components for the Federals. I finally relented and have been reloading some of the pinks that I will surprise her with. However, I am sure I am going to get "the look" when I tell her they are one and dones and she should empty them in the trash after she shoots them. So, I am just wondering if any of you reload them more than one time and how that has worked for you. Thanks.
Use the data for Federal Gold medal shells. Also Claybuster makes a CB6118 wad for all straight walled hulls that has reloading information included in each bag.Anyone have a recipe for a 1 1/8 oz. load? thank you. Mark
I'm just starting out with shotgun reloading. I've not had any luck getting 20 gauge hulls and have resorted to buying Federal Top Gun field loads. I have the Lyman 5th edition manual and cant find any reference to anything in 20 gauge Federal but the .350 paper base wad. Mine are closest in appearance to the Fiochi hulls with the white plastic base wad. I sent an email to Federal asking about load data. The response was that there was no data, as those shells were never intended for reloading. They seem too good to throw away, but I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?I really like Top Gun hulls. Using proper components, they load and crimp beautifully. I usually get 3 or 4 loadings before pitching them. They are so easy to get that I pitch them earlier than I would a premium hull.
Check your load manual and load away!

I was in the same boat at the clubs I shoot at. Had friends saving me what ever they were going to throw away and I found recipes for lots of different empties. White Fiocci, Nobel sports what ever I could get my hands on. Fed Top guns look just as good in the bin as any of those and with the right components load well and all go bang till they crimp poorly then get tossed.Interesting, as I've been giving thought to reloading the Federal Top Gun hulls. Seems everyone at my club is Remington happy only. It's vultures on dead racoons in the hull disposal bins, with Remington hulls being the dead racoons.
I see TONS on the Federal Top Gun hulls and asked a couple of the old fart reloaders, "Why don't you reload those Federals?"
"Oh, those are junk!" is the paraphrased answer, but I don't buy it.
I'm considering collecting those Federals and place a wad order, so I can see how they load, compared to the Rem GC/STS/Nitros and Win AA that I've been doing. Anyone have any idea how well they crimp? Maybe it's been covered elsewhere, but is the machine setup to crimp Federals closer to a Remington, or a Win AA setup?
I have a ton of these hulls. Decent stack height? Primer with 700x powder?I load a lot of reclaimed 1oz. loads in the Top Gun with 17.5 of Titewad or Red Dot or 16.5 of 700x with a CB4100 wad [1 oz. Windjammer clone]
I usually load twice and pitch.
The girls on the H.S. teams that practice at our trap get a kick out of the pink ones also.
thank you! I'll check that out.For 20 gauge. Data for Rio hulls will be very close. For the current plastic basewad top gun hulls. Straight walled hull data is very interchangeable.
Nice I didn't even notice.....haha. Timeless discussion?5+ year old posting??
