Federal Top Gun hulls

My wife has been after me for a while to reload the pink Federal Top Gun hulls for her. I resisted as I have been reloading Win and Rem hulls and didn't want to get different components for the Federals. I finally relented and have been reloading some of the pinks that I will surprise her with. However, I am sure I am going to get "the look" when I tell her they are one and dones and she should empty them in the trash after she shoots them. So, I am just wondering if any of you reload them more than one time and how that has worked for you. Thanks.

What load recipes are you folks using for these hulls? A few years ago I tried loading with 1 oz DR wads (lime green) but I had to put in 1 1/8 oz of shot.

For me, 18 gr. Promo, 1 oz. reclaim in a PT 1215 wad. I think the DRXXL Orange wad would work here too if you have better local access to Down Range wads

I know the product literature says those lime green DR wads can be used with Federal Gold Medal hulls, but I wouldn't do it. That wad is designed primarily for use in the Rem and Win hulls, which are tapered walled hulls. The Federal hulls are all straight walled. Wads designed for the tapered walled hulls have a bit smaller diameter on the over-powder cup while wads designed for straight walled hulls have a bit larger diameter. While wads for tapered walled hulls can be used in straight walled hulls, they don't perform as well as wads made for use in straight walled hulls.

Knowledge and progress has been good for the reloader fo sho. I can recall for eons, all we had were pretty much a few wads, mostly taper wads, Rem/Win., listed in our LYMAN manuals and recipes for those wads in almost all hulls with similar charges. About the only SW wad avalable back then was the old 12-C1, which weren't too populace in many areas. We just used what we had. Knowledge is KING, heh.

What is the motto of the fabled Faber College: "knowledge is good?" In the olden days, we didn't know the difference between the two because it pretty much didn't matter. About the only straight-walled hulls anyone reloaded were the Federal papers. The tapered walled wads worked well in them because the thickness of the paper hulls reduced the inside diameter of the hull and provided a good gas seal.

Fed Papers or the famed "Blue Magics"!!
I load a lot of reclaimed 1oz. loads in the Top Gun with 17.5 of Titewad or Red Dot or 16.5 of 700x with a CB4100 wad [1 oz. Windjammer clone]
I usually load twice and pitch.
The girls on the H.S. teams that practice at our trap get a kick out of the pink ones also.

I've reloaded them more than 5 times, for a very long time.

She'll love ya for it. I buy 3-4 flats when they come out with shells around here for I am a big supporter. Both my sister and mom had breast cancer and surgery to it. Lost my mom to it after 4 years of battling. When they first came out I was at a meat shoot shooting them and had an older gent came along picking up others hulls and saw my pink used hulls in the hull box. He goes to ask what homosexual was shooting sissy pink hulls. I told him I was and told him why and that I was VERY confident in my heterosexual preference. He just looked at me, dropped his head and walked away. Nary a word said. I buy both those and the red/white/blue when I can find them to support the troops as well.

I load them pink ones for the wife too but in 7/8 oz.. It's easy to keep track of them that way. I reload them up to 10 times or so before the top ends split and I chuck 'em. Seems like they can be re-loaded as many times as anything else, almost. I also use the 17.5 g Titewad.

Were the Peters Blue Magics straight-walled?

Too long ago to remember. I just remember loading them with a AA wad and 700x.
I also remember loading them with a wad that had a green 2 disc insert with a crushable center. I forget the name. I still have 1 0r 2 in my shooting bag for some reason. Kinda like a Lage wad I think. Never saw any other color insert, just green. Flared base. Could load upto 1-1/2oz shot in it without the insert.

What is the real story on these "other than maroon" colored Federal TG hulls really? Does a portion of those shell sales go to those purposes, or is it just a gimick? I had a bug stash of those at one time, started to load some, and found that the length was consistently shorter than the maroon hulls, and I didn't want to reset things. Ended up tossing them.

I seem to hit more targets with the white ones than the blue and red ones.
I do not buy the pink ones . Not because of the color or the fact that they help support the Susan G Koman cancer research people . S.G.K. takes in way more cash than they can use yearly . They funnel the excess off to other causes . Their number one is Planned Parenthood . Not one penny of our money is voluntarily given to that bunch ever .No way no how .

You too? I though it was just me!!! I load the white ones for station 1 and 2 for the lefts and then the blue for 4 and 5 for the hard rights. On 3 it really don't matter. I miss equally there!!!!!!
Hey KS-Okie, I did not know this. Thanks for the heads up. I will look more into this.

I use the red ones for targets going to the right and the blue ones for targets going to the left.
While shooting dbls with the R-W-B shells , I found I spent way to much time and energy making sure I had two shells of the same color in the gun .
