The POS tries to make the federal contractors look like slave owners while the federal giverment lists jobs every day for less than $10.10 per hour

That's true Cat, but I think it only applies to new service contract workers. The old workers, who are now working, still remain at the old minimum. At least that's the way I read the article. He's got so many effffing executives orders out there, many will not know if they are washing or hanging out.

This is not what it seems. Most union contracts are tied to the minimum wage as far as wages and wage increases go. You can bet this was all for the union vote. Less than one percent of the work force will be affected by the wage increase. I kid you not.

The min. wage earners will applaud and thank Obama for this. But what is sad is that Obama, Reid, Pelosi and other elites are the ones that have been keeping their wages low. How? By not doing anything about the millions of immigrants and the wide open border.

I wish nobody had to try and live off of $7, $8, or $10 an hour. But when you got millions of new people coming across the border every year.

Ole Harry Reid has got a racket doesn't he. He gets the vote of the low wage, low skill porters, dishwashers, bus boys, maids, etc who work in the Vegas casinos by agreeing to raise the min. wage a buck or two. Then the casino owners owe him because he allows millions of new cheap help to come in and keep wages low. He raises the min. wage a buck or two in order to keep wages $10 lower. It's a win-win for old Harry and a win-win for the casino owners. The real losers are the saps down in the trenches trying to compete with the hordes of 3rd world immigrants.

The Federal Contracts I've been around the starting wage for the lowest paid worker was $15 per hour, and most were $25. Its called "prevailing wage"

BUT the LIV'S will think he has "done" something wonderful and will give him all the credit in the world that he is "Working for America".

"Why would we not want to raise the minimum wage?" I don't know, I can't think of a reason not to. Sounds good. I suggest we raise it to $50 an hour. If we did that, based on a 40 hour week and a 2000 hour a year job - everybody could be making six figures ($100,000). That would really improve the self esteem of the nation. Every man/woman can say they make 6 figures.

Oh, but most jobs being created now aren't full time. Obama says we shouldn't work too much anyway and should spend our extra time painting. So maybe we should raise the min, wage to $69 an hour? That way a person working 29 hours a week and 50 weeks a year could say he/her makes six figures a year.

But dam what about the old retire people who aren't working? What's a retired couple with the average nest egg of $500K going do? Wouldn't be fair to them if everybody around them is making $100K plus a year and they are trying to live off of $30K a year. Social Security is basically broke so we can't have them up the benefits to 8 or 9K a month. I know let's raise interest rates to 20% so that couple can make a $100K a year off their money?

Ah damn, that won't work because that couple just out of college won't be able to afford a house at those interest rates. Hell we won't need construction workers then so what are they going to do?

Or we could just let the market work. No, markets don't work do they?

According to Senator Warren there is a 2.7 Trillion surplus in Social Security I guess perhaps maybe it's not as bad as you think?

My solution would be to do away with the min. wage altogether. I think it has keep wages artificially low. Several years ago I had a 16 year old family member go out and look for a job. He hit all the places that normally would hire an entry level person. They all paid the same thing - min wage. There was no competition. The dam government set the standard for what that kind of work would pay. Every place followed the standard. Nobody offered 50 cents an hour more or less. He couldn’t go back to place B and say place A offered me a dollar more than you are offering can you match or beat their offer.

They all knew what each other were offering - the standard min. wage. Nobody was going to deviate from the standard - set by the Feds.

2.7 Trillion surplus - Obama blew more than that in his first 2 years through deficit spending. That ain't going last long.

Labor, like anything else is dependent upon the MARKET forces working upon it.

"Need" is a child's plaintive whine about concepts it cannot begin to fathom.

Folks at WalMart in ND make 20 bucks an hour...why? Because they are competing against the oilfields where almost anyone can make that, even the guards at the gate, who know NOTHING make 20 bucks.

Live in a s^&thole where there's plenty of unskilled labor and not many jobs? Don't be surprised when the only jobs are min wage jobs...that's life. Don't like it. MOVE.

Besides, this whole "minimum wage" thing, like "school bullying", "childhood obesity" et al is merely a pathetic distraction to get the mouth-breathers and low information retards to ignore how bad the economy actually is....and how few are actually WORKING.

Don't kid yourself that when the minimum wage goes up that will be the end of it. The next level of employees will not be content with the difference in wages and responsibilities. It will climb right up to the top and the esult will be higher costs for everything.

If the minimum wage is raised it would be a good idea to buy stock in cat food companies, since Social Security will stay the same and prices will quickly adjust to the new costs.
