Now these guys are what i call "SuperHuman". In fact Bob was featured on the show with a similar name. I'd let either of them cover me in a heartbeat. How many of us here would shoot out toes off trying this??
Bob Munden is not only the fastest shot in the world he is probably the best shooter I have ever seen with either hand with anything! I mean he can literally shoot anything from a slingshot to a lever gun to free throws to marbles. His hand eye coordination is Superhuman....I have seen him snuff out a balloon at 300 yards with a snubby .38 using factory ammunition! He can shoot a hand thrown aspirin out of the air with his .45...I have even seen him hit a clay target out of the air with a slingshot! At one time he was on a program called the American Shooter hosted by Jim Scoutten and he and Byron Ferguson (The best archer in the world hands down) would challenge each other every week with a new shot to try and "one-up" the other guy...Made for some amazing marksmanship feats to say the least...
Luckyman---I watched that show every time it was on. Byron is to archery what Bob is to guns. They are both true Super Humans. Its hard to fathom their hand eye coordination. The first time i saw Bob shoot i called BS and swore it was camera tricks until they slowed it down where my pea brain could comprehend. Amazing is all i can say too.....
I had the pleasure of meeting Bob Munden a couple years ago right here in Fallon NV. We were watching the Beretta Cowboy fast draw competion and I turned around and there Bob was sitting right behind us. I had a great conversation with him and his wife Becky - both of them were very friendly and very much regular people. (other than the obvious super human shooting skills)
I told Bob how his trick shooting had inspired me to try pushing my own ablitiies since the first time I saw him shoot aerial targets with a six gun. I'm no where near the shooter Bob is but it sure has been fun trying some of that stuff. As for speed - forget it I can't even fully comprehend how fast Munden can run his revolvers.
Bob is a great exhibition shooter and fast draw artist, but nowhere in the league with Jerry Miculek. Jerry doesn't rely on blanks and what not, he can actually pick up any firearm and shoot it fast and accurate without staged props. Not only that Jerry puts his reputation and titles on the line many times a year at several different competitions in different disciplines.
For example the long range balloon pops Munden does, the balloon is against a big steel target, all he has to do is hit the steel and the splater will take care of the balloon. Not to take anything away from what Munden does, but he is a showman and if taken out of his element he's just another good shot. Munden has tried his hand at the type of competition Jerry does and did ok, middle of the pack, he's a showman and does his show really well.
I'd like to see Jerry smoke an aspirin out of the air with a single action Colt..Where is the staging for that shot? What about when he shoots through a washer then puts tape on it and does it again? They then show it in slow motion...Nothing staged about that!
I'm sure there are allot of things Bob does that Jerry can't fathom doing..I have seen the pistol and rifle competitions and allot of it has to do with agility as well as shooting and Bob just isn't that agile anymore..Bob can shoot anything that is in his hands...Don't kid yourself!!!
I don't think anybody(including myself) was saying Jerry is not Super Human as well. To say Bob's shooting is nothing more than trickery is a little off base though. They both are amazing and gifted in their own areas.
About 25 to 30 years ago Bob did a promotion at Danville Illinois. He was so fast that even in slow motion one couldn't see his hands move as he shot two targets and reholstered his 45. They had to play the tape in slow motion and stop the tape to show his hands moving. I never thought the human body could react that fast. As he said in the video the gunslingers in the old west were probably shot in the back by those who would want to even the odds when they knew who the target of their presence was. Good thing he wasnt' born a hundred years earlier. He would have been a target for bushwacking his whole adult life. Dan
