DryFire? Other Training Systems?

I'm very very new to trap shooting, but I really enjoyed my first time out. I'm interested in a home training system. I've researched a bit, and DryFire looks like a good system, but I've got zero experience with these. Moreover, I can't find any comparison reviews of computer training systems for trap shooting. Any thoughts?

Welcome to trapshooting. :)

There have been a few threads over the years on Dryfire as well as the newer alternative in VR. Here's two of the pretty comprehensive ones. Lots to be found in the site's search feature too.

Another competitor to Dryfire is TrueClays which takes a similar approach in terms of a projected reality. There's been less posting on that but still some stuff available via site search. it's another level of cost.

I've used both Dryfire and ClayHuntVR quite a bit over the years. The TLDR is I recommend checking out the VR approach which as long as you also purchase a gunstock to use it with is useful, a better simulator of the optics of looking at targets moving away from you, and can cover a lot more shotgun games.

BUT!!! …. if you're relatively new to trapshooting (especially if you're new to shotgun clay sports) I'd recommend spending your first $1000 on good coaching and targets. Then if you love it and choose to add a simulator to it you'll have the best chance of practicing good habits. In my view the biggest risk of a simulator is that ability to practice not so great habits. Simulators let you get a LOT of reps in - which is really helpful if you're practicing something you want to burn into your head. But it also means you can build habits super effectively that are not useful IRL.

I'm a huge fan of the simulators, but I think it's something to be careful with.
