Anyone tried the PC Post Downrange wads? I just recieved 500 to try out. Supposed to "enlarge your pattern".......for 16yd shooting. Mine came in multi colors ....should make for nice viewing.

I got them at Gamiel's. I loaded one box of shells and will try them tomorrow. This dosen't sound GOOD from Neil.....what was the problem? These have a little "post" (hence, the name Pc Post)sticking up in the center. Are they too scattery?

The original intent was to allow the use of a tighter choke for shooting when a more open choke would be preferred. Something like using a Modified Choke for Skeet. Neil is correct in his statement that you should test some before loading too many. The few pattern tests I did, convinced me that it would be a better idea to use the preferred choke to begin with. I only had one barrel do well with them. It was a fixed IC barrel on an 1100. It would give acceptable patterns for skeet. The IC barrel by itself was good enough, so the use of these wads was not needed. If my memory serves me correctly, the patterns were very patchy and uneven. There were holes you could throw a cat through. If you already have some, give them a try, but from my previous experience, they didn't work too well. Remington loaded that type of wad some years ago and it wasn't that successful either.

I have a bag of the DownRange PC wads, (12 gauge) I added approximately 50 wads from a previous bag into a new bag, (500). So it should contain at least 550+ wads. If someone wants to try them I'll send them to you. Give me $8 (to help with the shipping) and I will send them to you. Ed

One thing you might find interesting, dk, is that a very similar product was touted as _tightening_ patterns, the idea being that the choke, rather than jamming all the pellets together and allegedly "deforming" them, compressed them into the soft central post and so the load didn't experience any of the disruptive effects of excessive pressure.

Of course, I don't think that happens either, but if they don't sell as pattern openers, maybe they will as tighteners. Who's going to know?

I'm guessing that for the $8 that I paid for them.....I'm pretty much "screwed".
I like to experiment......this may be (another) ONE GONE BAD. I only loaded 30 shells.....will report back tomorrow.I loaded Clay's to 1200 FPS with this "cute" PC post wad. 16 Hrs from now, I may be paying someone to take them off my hands........or I'll hang them from the rafters (They sure look "cute")Matt (from Woodson Enterpises).....has NO experience with them (also NOT GOOD).

I shot (and patterned) the original PC post wads for years at Sporting. While they didn't really open a pattern up much, I noted a much more even distribution of pellets from a tight choke. Don't be too concerned.

dkusner, if you like them I will be surprised too. Go pattern them on paper and see what they really look like. Nice marketing idea however. The original post wad which was a Remington worked equally as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Kip........I'll use them on my 3rd round and try to NOT think negatively. Better yet, I could "slip" them in on our BEST shooter and WATCH the results. Either way, I'll know come 3PM EST tomorrow. My problem is that, here in Ohio , I've been shooting (16 yd) anywhere from 16's to 24's .......inconsistent.If I can't break 20 from the 16 yd line.....I feel like I've taken a step back.Granted it's been COLD and WINDY.Thanks (ALL) for the feedback. I DO believe that I have some nice loads (Clays @ 1145 FPS with a Downrange WJ is my latest "pet load"). I also believe that it is the Indian /and not the Arrow. It's WINTER and my experimenting time.

DK,
I just shot a bunch of 5-stand today, in the cold. The real secret to breaking clays is hard focus. Concentrate on that, and it doesn't matter much which shell you shoot. Remember, it's all fun, just some of it is more funner than others.......

I Think I like them. Will use all 470 of them left. I loaded 1200 fps of Clays with a Rem. primer and JUST CRUSHED every bird that I hit(Note ....."that I hit"). Nothing but SMOKE. I will also say it was a BRIGHT day and had to change glasses. Took out my cheapo purple lensed glasses with NO precription. Ended up betting our treasurer for $1 and running 25 straight. That was with my special Unique recipe. I did break 21 with this PC post wad and Clays. I shoot an SKB unsingle with a Comp N' Choke Mod.Perhaps the Downrange PC Post Wad needs more publicity.

Try them out of a Comp N' Choke Mod. with the recipe above from the 16 yd line and you may want to TRY some Shamwows too.I have no vested interest in Downrange, and I say that they DO work. We'll keep this a secret KIP.

kip, just want to make sure I have this right . . .

With your old Unique load you broke 25x25.

With the post wad you broke 21x25 (but broke 'em hard!).

. . . and you plan to shoot the other 475 of them.

I wonder why you don't just continue with the Unique loads you do so much better with?

Neil

P.S. Missing 4x25 or so was, as I remember, about the results I used to get, even on the first shot in doubles which I got them for.

Neil, I'm Dkusner (Dennis Kusner)...not KIP. I have 10 different powder/4 different primer/ and 7 different wad CHOICES. I shoot for FUN. I bought the Unique for Oakley games (1 1/4 oz)... but tried it at 1 1/8th oz 1200 FPS.Sometimes, I too wonder why I don't just STICK to 1 recipe? my "TED'S" recipe is Rem. hull/23 grains Unique/Fio primer/Downrange Fig. 8 wad. 1200FPS.
I call it "Ted's" recipe because he is our Club's Tresurer. We bet $1 once in awhile on the 16 yd. line. Week before this I broke 24/25 with the SAME recipe...missing #25. He's broken 25/25 against me also (last spring). I can take the SAME shell and break 19/25.......but WHEN it's $1 bet agains TED......this is WHAT I use now.

P.S. after reading some of the above ,I was about to give these Downrange PC Post wads away. Now, I'm giving a "few" away to sample. I saw no "holes" in my pattern that a cat could go thru. The 4 birds I LOST were my fault. Rem. hull/18.8 grains Clays/Rem. primer/Downrange PC Post wad @ 1200FPS. I shoot fairly "quick".
