It's a small crack in policy.......unfortunately it will take a Richter Scale breaking slide to actually become reality where I work.

Looked to see if the DoD Directive has been published yet and I can not find it in official publication. This is a long time coming, especially for retirees and civilian employees.

This is a long time coming, especially for retirees
allow DoD personnel to carry firearms and employ deadly force while performing official duties.

Commanders, O-5 and above, "may grant permission to DoD personnel requesting to carry a privately owned firearm (concealed or open carry) on DoD property for a personal protection purpose not related to performance of an official duty or status," the document states.
