Do you ever replace choke tubes

Do choke tubes get worn? I have a Kolar shotgun and I am wondering if factory choke tubes are best as a replacement or if there are better chokes available.

The choke tube should wear out about the same time as your barrel, somewhere around the 2 million round mark, I think your OK for a while, there are shotguns in Argentina at dove outfitters that are said to have had the actions replaced two or 3 times and the barrels have over 1 million rounds and still going strong, I believe there is an article somewhere on this on the Benelli web site but I couldn't find it to supply the link, I'll keep looking and post when I find it.

Thanks for the info. My full choke on my single barrel gets rust if I don't clean it often. It looks like it is coming from the choke tube. Not sure if it is the threads in the barrel or the choke tube but I will probably just replace the tube and see if that takes care of it.

You can not “wear out” a Titanium or 17-4PH choke tube by shooting lead target loads through it. You can damage the threads or put a small ding in one such that you might need a new one. Do a search on this website for some extensive testing by Neil Winston on chokes. Given equal constriction, they are pretty much the same.

I'm sure you can damage them from shooting steel shot through them if they're not meant for steel or shooting a slug through an extra full turkey choke, but the only chokes I've ever heard that got worn out were those adjustable chokes that no one should waste their money on in the first place!

I have a league teammate who was convinced his full choke tube was worn oversized from excessive shooting. When I asked him if he had the original measurement to compare with what it is now he said he did not. How do you know, then, was my next question. Because my scores with it are about the same as with my mod.
I gave up.
My 1975 TB fixed full is about .0005" larger today than when new. Several hundred K rounds later. (includes some steel, buck, and a few slugs when it was my only shotgun.). My scores are a little better than in '75.

How many people shoot only one chioke tube. The threads would wear out before the tube does.

Anyone ever notice how much plastic buildup ends up in a tube. It doubt that the constriction will ever be less than original. After one box it is getting tighter.
