Not seeing anything vaguely interesting in the Dicks, Gander, or Cabelas ads. Most of the stuff is still @ or over regular retail price.

Dicks and probably Field and Stream will have flats of shells (either GC or TG, don't recall) for $50, not really a great sale since they are regularly on sale for $55, and occasionally for $53 without having to fight the mobs.

The only thing I saw that might be a "deal" would be the Marlin 795 Gander has for $110, but not something I'm interested in.

Anybody have anything that caught their eye that I might have missed?

Cabelas Herters $54.99, in-stock, in-store, and that may only be at selected stores. That won't get me out on Black friday.

My local Dicks has not yet published their Black friday flyers. Manager of the gun section of my local Dicks says he expects something, but that is corporate decision and he won't know about it until the ammo shows up at his store or he gets a peek at the Black friday ads. Last year they had Gun Clubs for $42 or $44 a flat. He told me Black friday early a.m. at his store last year wasn't that busy, but chaos in the parking lot. If I knew that last year I would have been there. $50/flat won't get me out on Black friday.

Black Friday Sales was invented to get rid of surplus and/or old merchandise!

Guns and ammo don't fall into that category ... so there is no incentive to deeply discount them!

Dick's lowered their sales/profit guidance today through last quarter citing softer sales than anticipated leaving them with heavy inventories. Dick's also suggested the Christmas season may be flat and promotional and off pricing will come to the fore to boost sales.

Rutgers also spoke about Bass Pro today taking a run at Cabela's with neither side saying a word. Bass Pro has been acquiring boat companies expanding this side of their business.

TSS- You can find leaked copies of the Dicks ad on line, that's where I saw 50 buck flats. The selection at the Dicks here has declined horribly in the past year for target ammo, and I'd be surprised if you could put more than a few flats of any make and model of target ammo. They used to have tons of Gun Clubs, I'd buy 10 flats at a time for the gun club when they put them on sale, but they seem to not care about target shotshells anymore since field and stream moved in across the street.

I think Dick's reaction to lack of available ammo to sell over the last few years caused them to reduce their dedicated shelf space. Empty shelves can cost customers. Ammo sales also represent a very low percentage of their shelf merchandise. I have also noticed a reduction of floor space in fishing gear. Places like Dick's and Sports Authority compete more heavily in family and yuppie sports, including golf, hockey, baseball, football, basketball, soccer, lacrosse etc.etc., and they are going to dedicate to most floor and shelf space to their biggest selling items.

There used to be 2 Dick's within 5 miles on either side of me. Cabela's moved in and one closed. As high as Cabela's prices are, I have been in their store more times in 2 months, than I have been in Dick's for two years. Cabela's does not sell golf, soccer, lacrosse or baseball merchandise and that is okay with me.

Yes, the Black friday sales are a bit disappointing this year. But last year, or the year before, during the Holiday Season I got a coupon, maybe a Cabelas Club coupon, that I was able to use with a free shipping offer. That got me a couple flats of some very nicely price ammo delivered to my porch. :) That would be a nice repeat for this year. "Hope springs eternal in the human breast".

The Sporting Goods "Sales" have disappointing to say the least. There are a lot of factors , especially with ammo. While many of us are died in the wool Shooters and Hunters, the buying trend in last few years (much of it driven by worries of a more socialist government) has been driven by hoarding buying with a lot of people storing up ammo they will probably never use! Sales except for some pistol ammo and .22 s have now dropped somewhat. I quit doing Black Fri. because of disappointing sales gimmicks and lack of inventories (especially at Dicks). I usually just watch for sales and catch them when I can. Another factor is the declining amount of knowledge inside the sporting goods companies. Sales managers are MUCH LESS likely to know much of ANYTHNG about the shooting sports or shooters needs and the companies mostly just hire yuppies with College Business Degrees that wouldn't know one gun from another or a Hunting,Trap, Skeet, or Sporting Shotgun from a Cricket Bat! All this adds up to poor marketing and a lot of Frustrated buyers!

It's hard to find good help, kids today think hard work is punching a keyboard. If they can't find an answer online then it's not important so why bother researching and learning. Employer's feel lucky if someone shows every day and does something, anything. Work ethics are a thing of the past thanks to Mom & Dad who enabled their kids to do nothing while over praising them. Just be happy someone will talk you as most retailers don't even offer that, a conversation that is.

Skeetman, I gather that you don't understand that Cabela and Field and Stream are one and the same. Let's start the conversation again, with that fact in our quiver.

Except that you're wrong. Dick's and Field and Stream are owned by the same company, as is Golf Galaxy. None have anything to do w/ Cabelas.

I got fed up with black Friday sales years ago. I detest stores having big ads for some item, only to see in fine print it is only available at certain hours and in very limited quantities, often as few as 10 or less.

Instead, I sit back and relax on Black Friday and take it easy.

My buying is done on so-called White Monday, the day many businesses that sell on the Internet have their version of Black Friday. There are several years that I've done all my Christmas shopping from my keyboard.

I checked our local Dick's a few days ago. All target ammo was 59.95/flat (Rio and Gun Club). Only some hunting ammo was 54.95. Manager said not to expect any sales until spring.

Shydas, Black Friday and Saturday -

Plain vanilla Estates and Top Gun $52.99. Nearby Richlands had them recently for $50.

Fiocchi primers - $20.99/k.

Shot - $32.99.

PA buck season starts Monday, so it could be pandemonium for this sale.

MY semi-local Dicks (with no sales tax) - Top Guns, $48.90, one flat limit, sale thru Saturday.

If they would take $15 off a $50 purchase coupon, that would make a flat of Top Gun and a candy bar a very good deal.

One flat is not worth a special trip there for me this weekend. But it is on the way to my gunclub, so a flat going to the club, and another flat on the way back would be nice. But my gun is broke :( , so no reason for a trip to the club. :icon_cry::icon_cry::icon_cry:

Odd tho, this item did not appear in their flyers until today.
