A former Ogallala resident who had recently been living in Windsor, Colo. was indicted by a grand jury in Weld County, Colo., last week on 11 counts of felony securities fraud and theft.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Darin DeVoe, 34, who was last seen in Sidney. According to a report in the Greeley Tribune, law enforcement officials believe that DeVoe, an avid hunter, may be armed and dangerous.

The arrest warrant also states a former business associate indicated DeVoe may try to commit suicide or run if contacted. DeVoe, who was co-valedictorian of Ogallala High School in 1982, is described as 6-feet, 5-inches tall and weighs 240 pounds.

According to the Tribune report, the grand jury indictment states DeVoe stole $2.6 million from 19 of his investors by inducing them to invest in his mortgage business of buying distressed homes.

DeVoe would enter into an agreement in which he would manage the properties and forward small monthly profits to the owners. When the investors were convinced to buy more homes, the payments stopped.

The investors said Devoe not only failed to manage the properties, but robbed the home of the investors’ equity, leaving the homeowners with homes in disrepair and massive upside-down mortgages with no way out.

Anyone with information about DeVoe is asked to call the Weld County Sheriff’s Office at (800) 436-9276.
