Gentle readers:
Almost everyone has heard about the enormous breach of security involving Target stores. This thread is about something else. Here's the story...
My credit card statements (Master and Visa) should have arrived roughly a week ago but didn't. To avoid interest charges I looked up the account balances and sent checks for the full amount the end of last week.
Fast forward to this morning... I get a call from a stranger saying, "The post office delivered your credit card bill to my house". While I went to retrieve the statement, Mrs. sissy looked at our accounts again on line. All the new charges on both cards up to yesterday were legitimate. However, yesterday's Visa transactions included one for $9.95 to an on line dating service.
When I got home, I immediately called the credit card company. Turns out there was another charge for $9.95 this morning to a different dating service plus one for $119.95 to an escort service. Big kudos to the credit card company! As the phony charges tried to post, the CCC took one look and called bullsh!t. None of the junk was actually processed.
Needless to say, I cancelled the compromised card (Visa) as well as the other card (Master) whose missing monthly statement is still floating around somewhere. It appears no damage was done and almost no inconvenience was involved in straightening things out.
The moral to the story? Check your statements. Anything can happen.
sissy
PS: If anyone is looking for an on line escort service or an alternative to the 'Christian Mingle' dating site, I might be able to help.
