Weld County Sheriff John Cooke won’t enforce new state gun measures expected to be signed into law by Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper, arguing the proposed firearms restrictions give a "false sense of security."


Cooke said the proposed firearms transfer requirement would not keep guns out of the hands of criminals, according to the GreeleyTribune.com report.

The sheriff told the news outlet that he and other county sheriffs "won’t bother enforcing" the laws because it won't be possible to keep track of how gun owners are complying with the new requirements.

Cooke is joined in his opposition to the proposals by El Paso County Sheriff Terry Maketa, who told an angry packed crowd at a meeting on Thursday in Colorado Springs he would stand firm against the bills

Congrats to any Sheriff nationwide who will stand strong against these puke politicians. They all run on some platform leaning to the center until elected. Then these same bastards turn into little "Dictators" pushing their own personal and party bull on us. These same IDIOTS allowed Marijuana to be legal here in Colorado too. Does that make it right?


Shame on all elected officials who fail to protect our Constitution and the 2nd Amendment. I stand behind the Sheriff or any elected politician who is tough on crime and digs their heels in for citizens rights to not become victims. We all as human beings have the right to defend our lives or families regardless of who thinks it's politically correct to do so.


This just enforces the theory that you can get all the justice, or laws passed, that your willing to pay for. Makes me think of what's next? Maybe soon we can all marry our gay pets, sign them up for OBAMA CARE, get all the FREE STUFF he plans on giving away, that others have earned, and all doing it while stoned.

Any New York State shooters on here that happened to see the Hannity show the other night with the Putnam County Sheriff Smith. Putnam county has a web site and you can contact them and send an e mail thanking him for his stance against the gun law recently enacted. These law enforcement officials need to know they have our support. I have already done so. ed nichols

There are 18 sheriffs from California that have refuse to follow any more passed gun laws.

From what I have read about the future down the road in just a few short years. If the political agenda that want to get guns outlawed or very hard and expensive to own then the next agenda is that every officer of local and state police in the country MUST leave their weapons at the department at the end of their working shift and cannot carry one untill the beginning of their next shift. It sounds like they would be subject to the same thing civilians population would be also.
If thats the case, then why not take away their body guards that carry guns. Make the take public transportation to and from their work. Or make them furnish their own transportation on their own dime. After all whats to worry. Nobody will have a weapon. Bill
