Everyone's eyes are different. I've seen people use near-welders googles when it was very dark out, and clear lenses in bright sunlight.

Here is some info from Randolph web site. They have many more colors than these and you can read what each is best for. Here is an example:

•Medium Yellow - Highlights orange clay targets and enhances contrast in low light or overcast conditions. LT-83.69%

•Vermilion - Terrific lens for shooting against green backgrounds. Works well for those with red-green color deficiency. Highlights orange and dampens green. LT-41.41%

•Dark Purple - A great lens for very bright conditions. Provides contrast of orange targets against a deep blue sky. An excellent lens for glare reduction and snow. LT-30.33%

My preferences - In sun = Bronze Lite. In light shade = Target Sun Purple LM. medium to dark overcast = Clear. These are Decot colors.
